Best time to visit Egypt with parents

Written by The Trip Keeper team Content updated 23 Oct 2026 Facts last checked 23 Oct 2026
The short answer

For parents visiting Cairo and Luxor, our choice is November to February. March can work with a lighter walking schedule; the summer heat in Luxor is a different proposition. Choose dates for the hottest stop, not just the arrival city. Winter still needs a layer for cooler mornings and evenings. This recommendation uses the named stations below and does not claim that all of Egypt has one climate.

Cairo Airport station 62366, elevation 64.12 m, has 1991-2020 mean daily maximum/minimum temperatures of 18.93°C/10.08°C in January and 35.00°C/23.79°C in July. Luxor station 62405, elevation 81.55 m, has mean daily maximums of 22.77°C in January and 41.43°C in July. Both datasets use the same 1991-2020 period, making the city contrast clearer. They do not describe a Red Sea resort, desert camp or Nile cruise cabin.

Who it suits

For Parents / seniors

Fewer hotel changes, a rest block after a transfer and a seated alternative to a long walk; an itinerary preference, not an accessibility assessment.

If your dates are fixed

The practical detail is the gap between Cairo and Luxor in May: mean daily maximums are 32.19°C and 39.08°C respectively. Adding Luxor is therefore not a small weather change. For a parent-led itinerary, our recommendation is an early outdoor block, a proper rest interval and permission to skip an exposed stop. Agree the walking and stair demands with the operator; neither a famous site nor a private vehicle proves step-free access.
