A 3-day Banswara itinerary with parents: Mahi Dam and an easy pace

Banswara has a big dam, a weir with gardens, a lake, and temples, all at different distances. Here is a three-day plan with parents that keeps the drives short and leaves gaps, using only published distances and timings.

Three days is enough for Banswara's main sights if you do one outing a day and leave the afternoons loose. The distances below are from official pages. Accessibility for each place is not published, so ask before taking parents with limited mobility.

1. The map in numbers

  • Kagdi Pickup Weir: 3 km from the city on Ratlam Road. Gardens, fountains and water, overlooking Kagdi Lake (Rajasthan Tourism).
  • Mahi Bajaj Sagar Dam: 16 km from Banswara. The dam is 3,019 m long and 43 m high, with a 3 km wall road you can walk. Opening time is 6 AM (Incredible India).
  • Tripura Sundari Temple: 19 km on the Banswara-Dungarpur road near Talwara. Open 6 AM to 8 PM (Incredible India, Rajasthan Tourism Hindi page).
  • Paraheda Shiva temple: about 22 km (Rajasthan Tourism).

2. Day by day

  • Day 1: arrive. Do only Kagdi Pickup Weir, the closest sight, in the late afternoon. See our notes on getting in from Udaipur: Udaipur airport to Banswara.
  • Day 2: Mahi Bajaj Sagar Dam in the morning, when it is cooler, with a slow walk on the wall road and a long break. Nothing else that day.
  • Day 3: Tripura Sundari Temple in the morning, then return. Navratri brings big crowds (Incredible India), so avoid those dates with parents unless you plan for queues.

3. Weather and timing

Incredible India lists monthly temperatures for the area: November 14.1 to 33.3 C, December 11.0 to 31.4 C, January 10.7 to 32.3 C, February 13.3 to 36.0 C. It says October to March is the pleasant season. Afternoons are warm even in winter, so keep outings in the morning.

4. Not published, so ask

  • Dam closing time, entry fee and whether vehicles can drive on the wall road.
  • Steps or slopes at each site, and shade or seating.
  • Boating or ticket details at the weir. The Hindi Rajasthan Tourism page lists a park, swings, a pool and boating, but no timings or prices.
  • Restroom availability along the way.

5. For parents

  • Hire a car with a driver for the whole stay, and agree the day plan and waiting time.
  • Carry water, a cap and any medicines, since facilities are not documented.
  • Cut a stop if anyone tires. One sight a day is the plan, not a target.
