A comfortable 3-day Udaipur itinerary with parents: City Palace without the rush

Three slow days built from the official sights: City Palace, Lake Pichola, Jagdish Temple, Saheliyon-ki-Bari and Fateh Sagar. No official page confirms step-free access, so each day has a check and a fallback.

Parents like Udaipur because the lake does half the work: you can sit and look. The plan below keeps each day to one main stop and one easy one. We took the stops from official lists. We could not find an official page on steps, ramps or lifts for any of them, so we do not claim any stop is step-free.

1. What the official pages give us

  • City Palace: Incredible India says it sits on the shore of Lake Pichola, was expanded over four centuries and spreads over about 4 acres, a city within a city.
  • Jagdish Temple: built in 1651, three storeys, with carved pillars and painted walls (Rajasthan Tourism).
  • Saheliyon-ki-Bari: a garden with marble elephants, fountains, kiosks, a lotus pool and a small museum (Rajasthan Tourism).
  • Fateh Sagar Lake is on the same official list of Udaipur sights.
  • Lake Pichola: Jag Mandir palace is reached only by boat from the Bansi Ghat pier (Incredible India).

2. The three days

Day 1: arrive, then the lake

  • Keep it light after travel. Sit by Lake Pichola in the late afternoon.
  • If anyone finds boats hard, ask at the jetty how you board before you buy tickets.

Day 2: City Palace, slowly

  • Go early, before the crowd and the heat. Give the palace the whole morning and nothing else.
  • Before you buy tickets, ask at the entrance: how many steps, is there a lift or ramp, can a wheelchair be borrowed, where can we sit. We found no official answer.
  • Plan a long lunch and a rest at your stay in the afternoon.

Day 3: gardens and the lake edge

  • Saheliyon-ki-Bari in the morning. It is a garden, so there is more sitting room, but check paths.
  • Fateh Sagar in the evening, as a place to sit rather than a sight to tick off.
  • Jagdish Temple only if everyone is up for it. It has three storeys, so ask about the stairs first.

3. What to confirm

  • Entry fees and opening times for each stop, on the day or by phone. We did not find confirmed figures.
  • Whether your stay is a short walk from the lake. Old-town lanes can be narrow, so ask where cars stop.
  • Footwear and shade. Palace floors and temple steps are a good reason for non-slip shoes.

4. If a parent tires

  • Swap any stop for the lakefront, which needs no ticket.
  • Split the group: one parent rests while the other does the full circuit.
  • Book a car with waiting time for the day, so a stop can end early.
