A room price is not enough to compare two hotel bookings. Before paying, check the final total for your dates, including any resort, destination or other compulsory charge and its taxes. Then read what those charges cover. This guide does not establish a universal fee, disclosure law or right to opt out.
Separate the room rate, charge and optional purchases
Ask whether a charge is compulsory for your selected booking, how it is calculated and whether the displayed final total already includes it. Confirm the currency, nights, rooms or people used in that calculation. Keep optional purchases separate. A parking price or spa treatment appearing on an amenities page does not make it part of the room rate.
When booking through a seller, ask what is paid now and what the property will collect later. Save the final rate breakdown and terms, not only the first search result. Do not add a fee twice if it is already included.
An official example: a benefit can be a discount
Hilton Orlando's official resort page, checked 5 November 2026, displays a standard $47 daily resort charge. Its listed benefits include WiFi and fitness-centre access, two I-Ride trolley passes, daily scheduled roundtrip shuttle service to Magic Kingdom and EPCOT, and percentage discounts on specified restaurants, cabanas and spa services.
This is one property's published example, not your current checkout total or a rule for Hilton hotels. A percentage discount is not the underlying meal, cabana or treatment free of charge. A scheduled shuttle listing also does not confirm your date, seat, pickup or accessibility. Read the applicable details and confirm any service your plan depends on.
Match benefits to the people and dates
Check who can use a benefit, how often, whether booking or a voucher is required and what exclusions apply. Ask whether it is per room, per person, per day or per stay. Confirm any opening hours, service dates and reservation requirements. A benefit on a hotel page does not establish availability for every guest at every time.
Do not assume a rate includes breakfast, parking or airport transfers just because another benefit involves food discounts or a shuttle. They are different services. A listed facility also does not confirm usable access for a particular traveller.
If a benefit is unavailable or unwanted
Ask the hotel and seller what your actual terms say about the charge, any alternative and any adjustment. Not using a benefit does not itself confirm a waiver. A closed pool or cancelled service does not establish an automatic refund here. Get the answer for the exact rate before choosing whether to book or change it.
If a later bill differs, compare it with the saved confirmation, fee breakdown and your actual purchases. Ask the property to explain the specific line and keep any corrected bill. This guide makes no legal finding about a charge or guarantee of a card dispute outcome.
Compare the full booking
Use the same travellers, dates, room setup and cancellation terms when comparing hotels. Record the final payable total and any separately collected mandatory amount. Treat unresolved charges as unknown, not zero. The better fit is the booking whose total and usable inclusions match your trip, not necessarily the lowest first displayed room price.
