Air India senior fare or app promotion? Compare the final payable, not the percentage

Review Air India's dated senior offer and the app comparison checklist. No paired final-payable test or cheaper winner; APPFIRST and stacking remain unconfirmed.

A parent aged 60-plus should not assume an Air India senior fare is cheaper than an app promotion. Compare the same journey at the final payable stage, then weigh baggage, change conditions and the practical booking arrangement. A larger base-fare percentage is not a measured cash saving.

Checked 6 November 2026. This is a dated offer review and an original comparison worksheet, not a completed fare experiment. We have not obtained two identical senior-versus-app itineraries with final payment totals. No cheaper winner, current APPFIRST acceptance or actual rupee saving is confirmed here.

What the dated senior offer establishes

Air India's official senior-offer terms state booking until 23:59 IST on 31 December 2026, subject to limited inventory. The page advertises up to 25% off domestic Economy base fare, with lower headline maxima for other cabins, and 10% base-fare discount on the specified international regions. The international travel period is until 31 March 2027, with route-specific blackout dates. Do not treat that international travel date as a separately established domestic deadline.

Taxes, fees, surcharges and convenience fees remain additional to the discounted base fare. The terms cover Air India-operated flights, not codeshares; one-way and round-trip bookings, not multicity, group, Points or Cash+Points bookings. An advertised maximum is not proof that your selected flight has that discount.

Eligibility checklist before comparing

The passenger must be at least 60 on the travel date, with valid photo identification showing date of birth. The offer page distinguishes Indian nationals for domestic travel from all nationalities for international travel. It specifies a passport as age proof, with a valid government-issued ID alternative for Indian nationals. Carry the accepted original documentation and check the actual booking's requirements rather than guessing from the payer's age.

The offer page says a child or infant cannot be booked with a senior citizen. For a mixed-age family, establish how the actual passengers can be booked before comparing amounts. Do not silently remove a child from the price test or assume separate reservations will be linked. The airline's eligibility check, not this worksheet, determines whether a passenger qualifies.

Why we are not promising APPFIRST today

We found Air India's official APPFIRST app-offer page, but no explicit validity date in the wording reviewed. Its current availability, exact discount and eligibility are therefore unconfirmed in this article. An accessible promotional page is not a dated guarantee that a code will work now. Check the live app's own offer terms and accepted code before treating any saving as available.

An app is a sales channel; a senior concession is a fare selection. Do not assume they are mutually exclusive simply because the comparison uses those labels. Define the two products precisely: the eligible senior selection, and the regular fare with the specific app promotion that the actual account can use. If no current app offer can be verified, record that as unavailable to compare, not as a zero-discount quote.

The UPI stacking contradiction stays unresolved

The dated senior page advertises an additional UPIPROMO benefit of up to ₹2,000 and repeats it in the terms. The same terms also say the offer cannot be combined with any other promotions. We have not resolved that inconsistency through a matching checkout and airline confirmation. We do not promise stacking or add the two advertised maxima together. Before paying, ask Air India to clarify the particular combination and retain the booking's displayed discount and payable amount.

A two-column worksheet, with no invented prices

Column A: eligible senior fare. Column B: regular fare with a verified eligible app promotion. For both, record timestamp, exact airport pair, travel date and year, flight number, operating airline, cabin, fare family, passenger count and eligibility, currency, baggage, seats and selected extras. Keep payment method and insurance choice the same if possible. Mark any unavoidable difference.

Below each column, copy the displayed base fare, discount line, taxes and surcharges, convenience/payment fees, selected add-ons and final payable total. Neither column has an observed price in this review. Do not fill the blanks with an estimated 25%-versus 5% calculation, a search-card headline or the other column's tax amount. Only compare final totals once both are available for genuinely equivalent products.

If inventory changes between attempts or one fare includes different bags, this is no longer a controlled same-product test. Record the difference openly and choose based on the products actually available. Save the final fare conditions as well as the price. Do not call an amount held or guaranteed merely because it appeared on screen.

Read flexibility separately from the headline

The senior page mentions a complimentary date change with fare difference and other applicable charges. It also uses non-refundable wording while showing a cancellation-fee table and saying selected fare rules apply. Do not turn those mixed statements into a universal free-change or cash-refund promise. Confirm the actual fare's change, cancellation and no-show conditions before choosing.

For a parent, workable flight times and a booking arrangement the family can manage may outweigh a small saving. The offer itself does not confirm airport assistance, a particular baggage allowance for every itinerary or any travel-document rule. Check those separately for the trip. After 31 December 2026, treat the reviewed offer as historical unless a dated official extension is confirmed.

Sources and limits

The dated source is Air India's senior-citizen offer, including eligibility and terms. The undated APPFIRST page is linked only as the unconfirmed comparison lead. This review does not establish actual final prices, a winning fare, live code acceptance, stacking, a specific itinerary's eligibility or any extension. No ticket was purchased.

Questions on this article

asked by readers, answered by us

Is the senior fare always cheaper than an app promotion?

No cheaper winner is established here. We did not obtain equivalent senior-versus-app final payment totals. Compare the actual products, not headline percentages.

Who does the dated senior offer cover?

The passenger must be at least60 on travel date with accepted age/photo ID. The page distinguishes Indian nationals for domestic from all nationalities for international travel; check the actual eligibility and documents.

Is the discount on the complete bill?

No. The dated senior terms apply the discount to base fare; taxes, fees, surcharges and convenience fees remain additional.

Is APPFIRST confirmed current?

No. The official page reviewed has no explicit validity date. Current discount, eligibility and code acceptance remain unconfirmed in this review.

Can UPIPROMO be stacked with the senior offer?

Unconfirmed. The dated page advertises an additional benefit but also prohibits combining other promotions. Resolve the particular combination with Air India before payment.

Does the review establish free changes or refunds?

No universal promise. The page mixes benefit and restriction wording. Read the selected fare's change, cancellation and no-show conditions and confirm the outcome for that booking.
