Changing platforms at Brussels Midi: train number first, then the concourse

Use the current departure information and SNCB station facilities at Bruxelles-Midi/Brussel-Zuid. Eurostar departures and mobility help require their own checks.

Changing platforms at Brussels Midi: train number first, then the concourse

Bruxelles-Midi and Brussel-Zuid are names for the same station in the operator's station guide. First match the station and your actual train details. Then read the current platform and follow the station's route signs; do not assume a platform from a previous trip is still correct.

Illustration: A traveller confirms a platform change with station staff. Fictional scene, not the actual location, layout or service.

Start with the next departure

Keep operator, train number, departure time and destination ready. SNCB's station page provides real-time departures and arrivals. Use the current station display and announcements as you move, particularly if an incoming delay changes the connection.

A platform number is not a carriage or seat number. After reaching the correct train, find the coach shown on the reservation. Keep enough time for the walk and luggage rather than assuming that a connection listed online fits every mobility need.

Use the concourse signs for the actual route

SNCB lists lifts on the platforms and assistance for travellers with reduced mobility at this station. Find the signed route to your actual platform; a lift listed as a station facility does not guarantee every lift is operating at the moment you travel.

This guide does not give an invented platform-to-platform walking time or a permanent route for a train. If the route is unclear or a lift is unavailable, ask staff before committing a traveller who cannot use stairs to the wrong access point.

Eurostar is not an ordinary platform shortcut

Check the instructions and required arrival time from the actual international operator. Do not treat the station's platform-change advice as permission to bypass ticket, security or border procedures. A domestic train connection and an international departure can have different entry requirements.

Keep passports, tickets and any operator instructions accessible. The station's opening hours are not your train's check-in deadline. If a connection is tight, ask the relevant operator about the actual journey and ticket conditions rather than assuming automatic onward protection.

If mobility assistance is booked

SNCB's dedicated Assist room is in the main concourse beside the international ticket offices, near the Eurostar departure area. Follow Assist signs or blue Assist floor lines. For an arrival by car or taxi, the operator recommends the Horta Square side to enter near the room.

The room is for passengers with a same-day valid ticket and booked reduced-mobility assistance, and accompanying travellers. If you have not booked, staff say they will try to help, but cannot guarantee an immediate departure or unavailable equipment/staff. Do not make an unbooked room visit the whole connection plan.

Confirm the help and leave room for the bags

Confirm the assistance meeting point and timing with the booked service. The operator lists a call button at the room for access outside its free-entry hours. Read current service details if travelling very early or late rather than relying on the general station opening time.

Plan who handles the cases. A lift or assistance room is not a luggage-shipping service. Recheck the next departure before heading up, keep the boarding route clear and ask for help if a platform change makes the original plan unsuitable.

Quick questions

Are Midi and Zuid different stations? The cited SNCB guide uses both names for the same station.

Does a lift listing guarantee current operation? No. Check the actual route and equipment.

Can I skip Eurostar procedures during a transfer? No. Follow the actual operator’s requirements.

Is unbooked immediate help guaranteed? No. SNCB says it depends on staff and equipment.
