Chennai Airport has a metro station, but your destination is not simply any station with Central in a map screenshot. Match the mainline railway station on your ticket with the metro stop named Puratchi Thalaivar Dr. M.G. Ramachandran Central. Plan for the walk from the metro to the railway departure area and your platform. This is a transfer guide, not a promise that a close flight-to-train connection is safe.
Check the train destination at the airport
CMRL’s Airport station page lists Platform 1 towards Wimco Nagar Depot and Platform 2 towards Puratchi Thalaivar Dr. M.G. Ramachandran Central Metro. Its October 2026 timetable also lists Airport-Central inter-corridor services via Alandur, CMBT and Egmore, alongside the Blue Line service.
Use the destination display and current station instructions for the train you are about to board. Do not assume every Airport train follows the same route, or board only because an old screenshot gave a platform number. Ask station staff to confirm a suitable Central service if you are unsure. We quote no fixed departure interval or last train because the timetable distinguishes days and service patterns.
Find the right station entrance
The official Airport station page lists entrance B for the international and domestic airport terminals. It lists lifts and escalators, including a street/intermediate-to-unpaid-concourse lift at B and lifts from concourse to the platforms. Follow the signs and check current lift availability if a step-free route is important.
Entrance A lists GST Road and Tirusulam railway station among its destinations. Do not confuse the airport metro station with a suburban-rail route just because both are nearby. Confirm which service and ticket you want before leaving the terminal approach.
With suitcases or a railway deadline
Metro may be practical when the operating service, bags and walking suit your group. A car may be simpler when luggage is heavy or walking is difficult, but confirm the pickup, exact railway destination and full quote first. This article supplies no road-time or fare guarantee.
Check your actual railway departure station, train time and live platform information. Keep flight delay, baggage collection, station entry and walking time separate from the metro ride. Check current CMRL service and fare information on the travel day; this guide does not calculate your total connection buffer or protect separately booked tickets.
