A platform number gets you to the train, not necessarily to your reserved carriage. With luggage or limited walking, find the coach's stopping section before boarding rather than walking through several carriages after departure. Keep the train number, coach number and seat number separate.

Start with the actual train

Match the service number and departure time with the station information. A destination alone may not identify your booked train. Then confirm the platform and any announcement about a change before moving the bags.

The coach sequence is a picture of the order in which the train's carriages are arranged. Bahnhof.de describes it as showing the stopping position, carriage order and equipment. It can help a family or someone needing accessible boarding wait in the useful section of the platform.

How to open the operator's coach view

On bahnhof.de, search for your station, open LIVE departure & arrival and find the train. The operator says this view lists arrivals and departures for the next 60 minutes. Use the Coach sequence icon beside the platform information when it is available.

If the icon is hidden, the source says no coach-sequence information is available for that train. Do not invent the order from yesterday's train or assume a missing display means every coach is identical. Ask station staff or use current announcements.

Read section, coach and direction together

The view places track sections above the train drawing and shows the coach's stopping position within them. Arrows at the ends indicate travel direction. Inside a carriage, it may display its number or an important feature such as wheelchair space.

Clicking a coach shows details such as class and equipment. The operator's example uses yellow underlining for first-class coaches. Do not mistake a platform section letter for a coach number, or first-class marking for permission to use that class with a second-class ticket.

Use equipment information without overpromising

The display can include wheelchair spaces, boarding assistance, toilets, family zones, bicycle spaces or a quiet zone. Availability of the data is not confirmation of your reservation or that assistance has been booked. Arrange required help through the operator separately.

If the actual formation or platform changes, use the updated station information and ask for help rather than rushing along the platform with heavy bags. This article does not guarantee that every train has a coach sequence, a reserved luggage space or a fixed stopping section.

A short pre-boarding check

Check train number, departure, platform, coach, seat and class. Put the group at the indicated section with enough time to board safely. Keep aisles and doors clear and use the actual train's luggage arrangements; a coach diagram is not a baggage allowance.

Quick questions

Is a platform section my coach number? No. The section indicates where a coach should stop.

What if the coach-sequence icon is missing? The operator says no sequence is available for that train.

Does an accessibility symbol book assistance? No. Arrange the required help separately.

Does a diagram guarantee the same formation? No. Read updated station information and announcements.
