Getting from Ngurah Rai airport to Seminyak: taxis, costs and what to check before landing

Seminyak is roughly 9 to 15 km from Ngurah Rai airport, but the drive can take 25 to 45 minutes or more depending on traffic. Your realistic options are a pre-booked transfer, the official airport taxi counter, Grab or Gojek from their marked pickup spots, or your hotel's car. Here is how each works and what to settle before landing.

Getting from Ngurah Rai airport to Seminyak: taxis, costs and what to check before landing

Short answer: pre-book a transfer or ask your hotel, and treat Grab and Gojek as a backup. Seminyak is about 9 to 15 km north of Ngurah Rai (DPS), which looks like nothing on a map. In practice the drive is about 25 minutes in light traffic and 45 minutes or more in the late afternoon, evening or peak season. There is no rail or metro, so the choice is between a few kinds of car.

Option one: a pre-booked transfer. A driver meets you at arrivals with your name and takes you to the door. The price is fixed at booking, which is the main comfort after a long flight. Send the exact hotel name and address ahead, because Seminyak is a maze of narrow lanes and the last few hundred metres often cause confusion.

Option two: the official airport taxi. There is an official taxi service at the airport, with fares set by destination at a counter. It is simple, though it is usually dearer than an app or a pre-booked car. Pay at the counter, not to people who approach you in the hall.

Option three: Grab or Gojek. Grab's own help page describes a booth at the arrival gate with staff who guide you to the pickup spot, and local guides say international arrivals use a GrabCar Lounge rather than the kerb. Gojek uses marked pickup points. Fares are shown in the app, but toll and parking are extra, and the pickup walk can be longer than expected. Do not assume the driver will meet you at the kerb.

Option four: your hotel's car. Many Seminyak hotels and villas offer pickup. It costs a little more than an app, but the driver knows the property, which solves the lanes problem.

What to check before landing. Get your hotel's exact name, address and phone number saved offline. Decide the transfer in advance instead of at the counter. Keep some rupiah or a working card for tolls and tips. And note the timing: if you land during the evening rush, add buffer for the drive and do not book a dinner for the first hour.

Costs, honestly. Prices change with season and traffic, and published fares vary, so we do not quote one number. Compare a pre-booked quote with the app estimate and the airport counter, then choose the one with a clear total and a clear pickup spot.

The one line to teach your parents. "Uthne se pehle gaadi tay rakho, aur hotel ka pata phone mein save rakho" - decide the car before you land and save the hotel address on your phone. After a long flight, that removes most of the stress.

How we cover it at TripKeeper. For Bali-bound families we note the arrival transfer, the hotel address in both English and local form, and a backup option on the trip card, so the first hour is calm. If you want that for your parents' trip, send us a trip-planning inquiry.

Questions on this article

asked by readers, answered by us

How far is Seminyak from Ngurah Rai airport?

Roughly 9 to 15 km depending on where in Seminyak your hotel is. In light traffic the drive is about 25 minutes; in the late afternoon, evening or peak season it can stretch to 45 minutes or more.

Can I use Grab or Gojek from the Bali airport?

Yes, but with rules. Grab's help page describes an airport booth and staff who guide you to the pickup point, and local guides say international arrivals use a GrabCar Lounge. Gojek uses marked pickup points. Do not expect the driver at the kerb, and note toll and parking are extra.

Is there an official taxi at Ngurah Rai airport?

Yes, an official airport taxi service with fares set by destination at a counter. It is simple but is usually dearer than an app or a pre-booked car. Pay only at the counter.

Is a pre-booked transfer better for elderly parents?

Usually yes. The driver meets you at arrivals, the price is fixed in advance, and you avoid searching for a pickup point after a long flight. Send the exact hotel address ahead.

Is there a train or metro from the airport to Seminyak?

No. There is no rail or metro, so the choice is a pre-booked transfer, an official taxi, a ride-hailing app or your hotel's car.

What should I save on my phone before landing in Bali?

The hotel's exact name, address and phone number, saved offline, plus your transfer confirmation. Seminyak has many narrow lanes, and a driver may need the hotel's phone number for the last stretch.
