- Hotel rates and fares change by date
We could write a neat rupee table for a Jorhat couple's trip. We would also be making it up. No government or tourism page publishes hotel rates, cab fares or activity prices for Jorhat that stay true for a season. So instead of a number you cannot trust, here is a way to build your own budget in an evening, with the few facts that are official.
1. Start with how you get there
Getting to Jorhat is usually the biggest swing in the budget. The Jorhat District administration says the city has an airport inside the city, a railway station with regular trains from Guwahati, and about 308 km of road from Guwahati, covered in about 6 hours by regular buses. Price all three for your dates before anything else: the flight on the airline's own site, the train on IRCTC, the bus from the state or private operator. Pick the one that fits your comfort, then fix that number.
2. Stay: price three hotels, not one
Pick three places in the part of town you want and compare the same dates. Ask what is included: breakfast, airport pickup, parking. Do not assume the cheapest room saves money if it adds a long cab ride every day. Write the total for all nights, including taxes shown at checkout.
3. Local transport: agree the model first
You will either hire a cab by the day, pay per ride or use a mix. Because the airport sits inside the city, the arrival and departure rides are short. For sightseeing outside the city, such as the Gibbon Wildlife Sanctuary, a day hire is usually simpler than haggling per trip. Ask for a quote for the specific day and what it covers. Write it down.
4. Activities: list them and check each one
Common stops include the Tocklai Tea Research Institute, the Gibbon Wildlife Sanctuary and heritage sites like the Dhekiakhowa Bornamghar. Entry rules and any fees are set by each place, so check them locally or by phone before you add a number. Many of these are cheap or free to enter. Do not budget a fee you have not confirmed.
5. Add food and a buffer
Food is the easiest line to overestimate. Set a daily amount that matches how you actually eat, then add a buffer for the things that always come up: a longer cab day, a better room, a gift. Keep the buffer separate so you can see when you are using it.
Our checklist
Price the journey first; compare three hotels; get a written quote for the cab; confirm entry rules for each stop; set food and a buffer. This guide uses the Jorhat District (Government of Assam) pages checked on 30 October 2026 for the distance and connectivity facts. We have not quoted prices because no reliable official list exists.
