After landing at Hyderabad Airport with elderly parents, decide which transport service you are actually using before walking towards a pickup zone. “The taxi pickup” can mean an arrivals-ramp service, an app booking in the car park or a counter-booked prepaid taxi. They are not interchangeable meeting points.
Use the current airport displays and ask the transport staff to match the booking to the boarding point. If a parent cannot manage the advertised route, settle the alternative before starting the walk with bags. A set of directions is useful only if the traveller can use it.
Match the service to the location
The airport’s transport page currently lists Ola at Carpark Zones D6 and D7, Uber at D1 and D2, and prepaid taxis at Zone E. Separately, its Airport Taxi section names the arrival ramp near Pillars 4 to 6. Those are service listings, not a promise that every car booked under the same brand comes to the ramp.
Uber’s own Hyderabad pickup page makes the distinction clearer: its Airport Taxi Zone is between Pillars 4 and 5 at the arrivals curb, while its other pickup directions lead towards a D1 help desk. Check the option in your actual booking. Do not send parents to a kerbside pillar while the matched car is waiting in a different zone.
Where the airport and provider describe a location at different levels of detail, show the booking to staff rather than inventing a compromise. Current ride instructions can change with the service, airport works and other operating conditions. Neither an old screenshot nor the broad word “Uber” settles the pickup.
Do not turn an escalator instruction into a wheelchair route
Uber’s published D1 walkthrough includes going down an escalator towards Aeroplaza. That does not establish an accessible route for a wheelchair user or someone who cannot use escalators. Ask airport staff for the current usable route, any lift required, and where the companion and bags should go.
This guide has not verified a particular lift, walking distance or staff escort for your arrival. The airport FAQ advises contacting the airline in advance for assistance. Ask where that assistance ends and how the passenger will reach the onward vehicle. “Wheelchair booked” is not the same as a confirmed vehicle-side handover.
If the family cannot use a ride-hailing app
The airport lists counter-booked radio taxis and prepaid taxi options as well as app services. Use an authorised counter and ask for the boarding point, total quote and vehicle details before moving. An unsolicited offer outside that process is not a substitute for a verified booking.
Air India’s Hyderabad airport page says passengers can be escorted from taxi/rental counters to vehicles or shuttles if required, based on their booking. Treat that as something to request and confirm for the actual service, not a guarantee that every counter supplies an attendant on demand.
Ask who will help with the suitcases, whether the parent can manage entry into the selected vehicle, and whether personal mobility equipment fits. Ordinary taxi seating and boot space do not prove wheelchair-accessible boarding.
Keep waiting and vehicle collection separate
If one companion needs to find the vehicle, first agree a staffed meeting point and a way to reconnect. Do not leave a parent at an unconfirmed zone and then discover the pickup moved. Ask the attendant what is permitted at that point rather than assuming a desk is a waiting lounge.
The airport FAQ says kerbside is for pickup/drop-off and unattended vehicles can be towed and fined. A driver stopping at the ramp and a family waiting there while someone searches for the car are different arrangements. Coordinate the actual approach with the provider.
Before boarding, verify the whole transfer
Match the driver and vehicle against the booking or counter confirmation. Confirm the destination entrance, passenger and bag fit, payment method and total including applicable charges. This article gives no fare, free-waiting allowance or cancellation promise.
If anything changes, have the service confirm the revised arrangement. An informal replacement does not automatically inherit the original booking’s record or terms.
TripKeeper’s service-to-seat check
Our suggested family note has the actual service, boarding zone, usable route confirmed with staff, driver/vehicle confirmation and a named person handling bags and the handover. Keep that note with the traveller, not only on the phone of the person who booked.
The aim is to reach the correct vehicle together. Saving a few minutes is not much of a victory if the family has split across two pickup zones.
