November to February is the season most people have in mind when they plan Jorhat. The heat and the heavy rain are behind you, and the days are made for tea gardens, wildlife and long drives. It is not perfect, though. Mornings are cold, daylight is short, and not every plan survives a foggy start. Here is what the official pages say and how to plan around it.

1. What the district says about winter

A District Survey Report published on the Jorhat District website describes a humid, mesothermal wet climate, with a winter season from November to January. It says temperatures start falling from November and rise again from March. So November is the shoulder, December and January are the coolest stretch, and February starts to warm up.

2. Temperature ranges the tourism page gives

The Incredible India page for Tocklai Tea Research Centre in Jorhat lists monthly ranges of 6.8 to 26.7 °C for January and 8.3 to 29.1 °C for February. The same page does not give November or December figures, so we will not guess them. Plan for cold mornings and comfortable afternoons, and check a forecast a few days before you travel.

3. The trade-offs

  • Cold mornings: early starts, such as a wildlife outing, need a proper layer and a hot drink.
  • Short days: check sunset time for your date and finish outdoor stops with daylight to spare.
  • Fog risk: a foggy morning can delay a flight or a road transfer, so do not tie the first day to a tight connection.
  • Comfortable afternoons: good for tea gardens and museum visits, with a light jacket.

4. Crowds: ask, do not assume

We found no official visitor-count data for Jorhat, so we will not claim which week is busy. Ask your hotel how full they are for your dates, and book the parts that cannot move first.

5. What to book first

  1. Flights or train seats, since they fix your dates. Check the airline site and IRCTC.
  2. The hotel, with a clear cancellation policy.
  3. A cab for the days you go outside the city.
  4. Anything with timed entry, once you confirm the rules with the place itself.

Our checklist

Pack layers; check the forecast a few days out; leave a buffer on arrival and departure days; confirm timings for each stop. This guide uses the Jorhat District (Government of Assam) climate description and the Incredible India page, both checked on 30 October 2026. Weather varies year to year.
