Before telling a driver “Mumbai airport, Terminal 1”, check the airport name and three-letter code on the current booking. A terminal number is not enough to distinguish Mumbai's two airports. Nor is a taxi app's first search result proof that you chose the airport for your flight.
Illustration: a family checks the journey before leaving home. Fictional scene, not an airport, actual booking or transport service.
Two airport identities, not two terminal labels
| Booking code | Airport identity | Next check |
|---|---|---|
| BOM | Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, Mumbai (CSMIA). | Match the flight's terminal at this airport. |
| NMI | Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA). | Match the flight's terminal at this airport, not a remembered Mumbai terminal. |
The BOM identification appears in Adani's dated 1 April 2026 release. Air India's 23 September 2025 release explicitly identifies Navi Mumbai as IATA code NMI. These establish airport identities, not your flight assignment. In particular, the abbreviations CSMIA and NMIA are airport names used in the sources; they are not interchangeable with each other.
Read the current itinerary before opening the taxi app
- Choose the correct journey segment. For a departure taxi, read that flight's departure airport, not its arrival airport or a previous flight.
- Record the full airport name, code, flight number and local departure date. Recheck the latest airline notice against the current booking.
- Confirm the terminal for that exact flight and date through the airline or airport. If it is missing or disagrees, ask before treating the taxi destination as settled.
- Search the full airport name in the transport service, then inspect the selected place and pin. Ask the provider to confirm the airport and departure or arrival point in plain words.
For an arrival pickup, repeat the exercise with the arriving segment. A family booking a return car should not copy the outbound airport automatically.
An announced move is not a change to every ticket
Air India's 25 October 2026 announcement describes a phased Air India Group transition beginning with selected domestic services from December 2026 and planned West Asia services later. It refers to operations at both airports and makes the Kuwait plan subject to approvals. It does not say every Air India Group flight has already moved to NMI.
The older 23 September 2025 announcement also contains expansion targets. Do not turn those targets into a live timetable. This article does not confirm booking availability or the airport of any specific flight. Airline, route and “international” labels are not substitutes for reading your actual itinerary.
A family airport-change checklist
This is our original handover worksheet, not a geographic map or a validated road route. Copy it into your family notes and fill it from the current booking:
| Record | Write down |
|---|---|
| Flight | Passenger, flight number, local travel date and correct segment. |
| Airport | Full name + BOM or NMI; terminal after separate confirmation. |
| Car | Provider, selected airport pin, departures/arrivals and agreed meeting point. |
| If changed | Who checks the airline record, who changes the car, who tells the traveller and driver. |
| Complete | Updated booking or provider confirmation, revised cost and everyone acknowledging the same airport. |
“Please confirm this ride is for [full airport name, code], [departure/arrival], on [date], for flight [number]. The terminal/meeting point is [confirmed detail]. Please tell us if your selected destination is different.”
Share only the details the driver needs, not a full ticket with booking references and personal data. If someone else manages the car, make sure the traveller can reach that person and receives changes too.
If the car is already booked for the wrong airport
Stop and contact the provider through the booking channel. Ask whether the destination can be changed, the revised total and any cancellation or waiting charges. Check that a revised booking or confirmation names the right airport. A chat saying “okay” without the actual destination being corrected leaves the problem open.
If already travelling, ask the driver to stop somewhere safe while the destination and remaining plan are checked. Do not assume a transfer between BOM and NMI fits the time left. Check a current route estimate, the airline's instructions for the actual flight and what alternatives exist if the journey is no longer workable. Transfer duration, a direct rail connection, fare, missed-flight protection and fee waivers are unconfirmed here.
Sources and related checks
Checked 6 November 2026: Adani release, 1 April 2026 for BOM identity; the two dated Air India releases above for NMI identity and announcement scope. CSMIA's undated airport profile also identifies BOM. Neither an airport profile nor an announcement assigns your flight today.
Next: check the actual flight's terminal. If the confirmed airport is BOM and you are arranging a T2 arrival pickup, see our service-specific T2 pickup check. Do not transfer those pickup-floor instructions to NMI.
