Illustration: a fictional family asks for help at a generic station information point. This is not Pune station, a local uniform, a footbridge photograph or a verified walking route.
Do not assume you must leave Pune railway station for the street before reaching Metro. Pune Metro's own station page describes a railway foot overbridge connection to its concourse. But an adjacent station and a connecting bridge do not establish the currently open path from every railway platform, a step-free transfer or permission to use railway premises as a public shortcut.
The useful answer is more precise than inside or outside
The official Pune Railway Station Metro page says the Metro station is adjacent to the railway station and that a foot overbridge connects the railway station directly to the Metro concourse. We retrieved that description without a publication/update date. It is a reason to ask railway staff for the connecting footbridge before walking outside, not a guarantee that the route is available from your exact platform at your arrival time.
The same page labels images as architectural views and conceptual design. Such images are not an on-site directional photo sequence. This guide does not convert a rendering into a current gate instruction, staircase count or walking time.
Separate the connection from the travel-day access check
A 4 August 2023 Hindustan Times report describes the newly operating railway-to-Metro footbridge connection. That is dated news reporting of historical operation, not a current primary access notice for every passenger. The undated operator project profile lists Pune Railway Station among open Metro stations, but station operation alone does not settle the route from your train.
We did not find a dated official primary source establishing today's exact platform-to-gate sequence, railway access conditions, continuous working lift path or a measured walking time. Those details remain unconfirmed here. There is no invented three-minute walk or field-verified map.
Do not use a bridge claim to invent a platform-ticket rule
A 27 February 2026 DCN news report discusses railway-access/platform-ticket issues for Metro users crossing railway premises. We have not established a current dated railway rule from that report. Your situation as an arriving rail passenger is also different from someone approaching from the street solely to cross the station.
Keep your actual railway journey record and ask railway staff about the applicable access for your situation. Do not assume a Metro ticket gives unrestricted railway access, buy an unnecessary platform ticket on this guide's say-so, or bypass a controlled entrance. Confirm what applies before paying or taking a long detour.
From your train, ask in this order
- Confirm the actual railway station and platform where you have arrived. Do not reuse a platform from an older message.
- Ask for the currently open connection to Pune Railway Station Metro concourse, not just "the exit".
- Say how many people and bags you have, and whether stairs are unsuitable. Ask about each lift and level change, not only whether the Metro has a lift.
- Before leaving for the street, ask whether that is necessary from your platform today, and where the correct approach begins.
- At the Metro concourse, confirm the actual ticket, onward destination and boarding direction before entering the fare-controlled area.
Railway-to-Metro handover card
| Record | Fill with the actual answer | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Arrival | Train/date, actual station/platform | A shared city name is not an arrival point. |
| Connection | Open bridge/passage and where to join it | A network map does not show the platform approach. |
| Access | Staff-confirmed condition for your situation | Rail and Metro entry are different questions. |
| Mobility | Every level change and working alternative | One lift does not establish an end-to-end route. |
| Handover | Metro concourse/help point and person holding tickets | Keep the family together before the next gate. |
Suggested question: "We arrived on platform [actual] with [people/bags]. We need Pune Railway Station Metro and cannot use [stairs/long walk]. Which open bridge or passage should we follow, are all required lifts working, and does any access condition apply to us?" This is a help script, not an assistance booking or a promise of a stair-free option.
Why a route map or similarly named PDF is not enough
The Pune Metro route map helps identify the Metro journey, but is not a railway-platform walking map. The supplied general Maha Metro route-map page contains multiple network information and does not prove this local entrance.
The official 15 June 2024 accessibility release concerns new gates at PMC, Chhatrapati Sambhaji Udyan, Deccan Gymkhana, Bopodi and Kalyani Nagar. Its filename is not evidence of a gate opening at Pune Railway Station Metro. Read the stations in the document before using it for directions.
If staff cannot confirm a suitable transfer, compare another agreed route or a road vehicle from a confirmed pickup point. Ask about bag capacity and the complete quote before choosing. Keep the group together; do not send parents down an unconfirmed street exit while another person searches for the bridge.
Reviewed 6 November 2026 from public sources. No station visit, app/account access, route measurement, lift test, ticket purchase or assistance booking was performed. The connection is attributed to the operator; exact current access remains to be confirmed on your travel day.
