Two people, one Shillong hotel room, and somehow five different versions of "all inclusive". Before deciding whether the trip is affordable, price the same journey in every quote. This guide builds a three-night budget for an Indian couple without pretending an undated hotel rate is a promise.
Checked on 30 October 2026. The official Meghalaya Tourism page currently lists the MTDC Shillong-Sohra guided tour at ₹750 per adult. That is a useful priced component, not the price of a Shillong holiday. Hotel totals, private cars, meals and attraction charges still need your dates and written inclusions.
Start with one couple, three nights and a fixed scope
Use one double room for two adults, three hotel nights, your actual arrival and departure points, local sightseeing and one optional day trip. Keep flights or long-distance trains separate until their final checkout totals are known. If your route adds nights outside Shillong, add those rooms and transfers rather than squeezing them into a Shillong-only estimate.
Write the travel dates at the top of the calculation. Compare the same room occupancy, meal plan, vehicle use and cancellation conditions. A low headline price for one person is not a cheaper quote for two people.
The calculator: add each cost once
- Stay: the final three-night room total for two, including applicable taxes and any compulsory charges.
- Arrival and departure: both complete transfer quotes, including any separate first or last leg. For the shared-seat versus private-car decision, read our Guwahati-Shillong transfer guide.
- Local travel: the agreed sightseeing or point-to-point transport total. State the stops, waiting, parking and return drop in the quote request.
- Food: your chosen daily allowance for both people multiplied by the number of eating days, minus meals genuinely included in the hotel or tour.
- Activities: confirmed entry tickets and optional activities for two, plus any stated parking or other extra charges not already counted.
- Reserve: a separate amount you choose for changes, unexpected transport or an extra meal. This is your planning buffer, not an operator charge.
Couple total = stay + complete transfers + local travel + food + activities + reserve + final flights/trains. Divide by two only when you want a per-person comparison. Do not divide a per-person tour fare again, or multiply a room total by two. The calculator is simple. The quote labels are where the mischief happens.
Low, middle and comfort tiers: change the choices, not the arithmetic
Lower-spend plan
Ask for the least expensive suitable double room on your dates and confirm its bathroom, location and access before choosing it. Consider shared transport only when the boarding point, departure and final drop work for you. Keep fewer paid activities. A room that needs extra taxi trips may not produce the lowest whole-trip total.
Middle plan
Price the room features you actually want, a complete arrival-and-return plan and a manageable sightseeing day. Compare a guided bus option with a private-car quote on the same scope. Pay for a useful location or easier transfers before adding another stop just because it looks cheap on a list.
Comfort plan
Get a quote for the preferred room category, agreed private transport and a less crowded schedule. Ask explicitly about luggage, stops, waiting, driver arrangements and cancellation. "Premium" is not a list of inclusions. Do not assume it buys step-free access, every meal or unlimited car use.
We are deliberately not publishing universal rupee bands for these tiers: the official accommodation page checked for this guide does not establish a dated three-night checkout total. Enter a real quote in each tier and compare the resulting totals. An invented range would be quicker to write and less useful to travel with.
One verified component: the official Sohra guided-tour listing
Meghalaya Tourism lists the MTDC Shillong-Sohra (Cherrapunji) guided tour with an 08:00 departure and ₹750 adult rate. At that displayed rate, two adults total ₹1,500. The page also displays a ₹650 senior-citizen rate; if that applies to either traveller, confirm eligibility and booking terms rather than automatically using the adult calculation.
This is a displayed listing checked on the date above, not a confirmed seat or guaranteed future fare. Before payment, ask the operator for the actual operating date, boarding point, return arrangement, availability and exactly what the ticket includes. Do not silently treat meals, attraction entry or hotel pickup as included. If you take the tour, remove overlapping private-car costs from that day's calculation.
Room categories are not a live room quote
MTDC's Pinewood Hotel page describes Standard, Semi-Deluxe, Deluxe, Super Deluxe, Presidential Rooms and a Presidential Cottage. That illustrates why "a Shillong hotel" is not one price or one product. The category page is not proof that a particular room is available for your dates, or that breakfast, heating, access or a cancellation policy meets your needs.
Ask for the exact category, two-adult occupancy, three-night total, meal plan and cancellation terms. If travelling with mobility needs, confirm the route from vehicle drop to the actual room and dining area. Do not use a category name as an accessibility certificate.
Before paying, reconcile the quote
Mark every line as included, extra or not needed. Check both transfer directions, food already included, activity tickets and the final tax-inclusive amount. Keep optional shopping outside the essential trip total. Save the quoted scope and cancellation terms with the price, because a screenshot of a number alone cannot tell you what you bought.
For a useful Trip Keeper enquiry, send your dates, two-adult room requirement, arrival and departure points, preferred pace and whether you want a guided or private day trip. We can compare the same trip rather than comparing one complete plan with another plan's charmingly incomplete headline.
