AI illustration: Fictional travellers ask airline staff about weather disruption; no actual closure or assistance entitlement is depicted. Fictional scene, not an actual location, person or service.
Airport reopening, a new booking and permission to enter the country are separate questions. Get an actual airline plan rather than building a connection from a weather headline.
Confirm what the closure means for your flight
Use the operating airline’s flight status and airport information, then ask staff whether your flight is delayed, cancelled, diverted or awaiting a new slot. A closure announcement does not establish which alternative you have been booked on. Keep the ticket number, operating airline and affected segments together when asking for help.
Identify who can change the ticket
Air India’s published Conditions of Carriage describe carriage on another service, rerouting or a refund under the contract when disruption affects the journey. Its IRROPS policy dated 29 May 2025 separates Air India, codeshare and interline handling and identifies the booking source’s role in ticket reissue. Use these as Air India contract examples, not a promise that another carrier will accept your ticket or that an app’s suggested flight is confirmed.
Ask about the entire affected connection
Show staff the onward flight and ask what the revised itinerary covers. If the flights are separately ticketed, alert the next airline independently rather than assuming protection. Ask whether checked bags remain in the system, must be collected or will follow another route. Do not make a new tight connection merely because a reopening estimate appears online.
Do not leave airside on an assumption
Before exiting the secure area, ask about immigration, transit permission, checked bags and the route back to check-in. A hotel offer is not entry permission. If you cannot enter the country or have a medical, child or mobility need, tell airline and airport staff while they can explain the available arrangements. Do not treat another traveller’s passport situation as yours.
Separate assistance from a guaranteed entitlement
Ask what assistance is actually offered and whether costs must be approved before you pay. Air India’s contract contains weather and other beyond-control qualifications; this guide does not promise a free hotel, meals or compensation for every closure. Keep disruption notices, the revised ticket and receipts. Verify the actual new flight status before setting off, even after a booking is changed.
Questions before you travel
Does an airport reopening estimate confirm my connection?
No. Check the actual airline booking and flight status.
Does a hotel arrangement allow entry into the country?
No. Immigration and entry permission remain separate.
Is weather disruption always compensated?
No universal promise is made here. Check the applicable contract and actual assistance.
