Every group tour you've ever been on was decided by a number you never saw. Someone picked a group size, and that number quietly determined how much you enjoyed the trip.

Many big operators run groups of 30 to 45, because that fills a bus and makes the per-person price look attractive. This post is about what group size changes, and what it costs.

What a big group does to a day

With a big group, every simple thing takes longer: loading the bus, toilet stops, lunch. Lunch isn't "find a nice place," it's a pre-booked hall that can seat everyone at once. The day fills up with logistics disguised as sightseeing.

What changes when a group stays small

A small group fits in a couple of comfortable vehicles, at one long table in a small family-run restaurant, and can linger at a viewpoint because the decision takes one sentence. When someone needs a slower morning, it's a conversation, not a crisis. And a small group actually meets each other. We call our batches "travel family," and the small number is why that's more than a marketing line.

The honest trade-off

Small groups cost more per person. The guide, vehicles and planning are divided among fewer people instead of 40. What you get back is time, flexibility and a host who knows your name. If the goal is the cheapest way to stand in front of a monument, a big bus tour wins. If the goal is for your parents to come home rested and full of stories, the maths looks different.

Why we host our own batches ourselves

Because hosting only works when the host can actually know the group. On our own hosted group batches, Cheshta travels with the group, start to finish. Past a certain size, hosting becomes crowd management. We'd rather run more batches than bigger ones.
