Singapore events guide for Indian families: Deepavali lights, Chingay and the Night Festival

Written by The Trip Keeper Team Content updated 24 Oct 2026 Facts last checked 24 Oct 2026
The short answer

Three annual events can shape a Singapore trip with parents: the Deepavali light-up in Little India (early October to late November), the Chingay Parade (around Chinese New Year, held on 27 and 28 February in 2026) and the Singapore Night Festival (late August to early September). For most Indian families, Deepavali is the easiest and most familiar. Choose one and build the trip around it.

February

Chingay Parade

Singapore Dates not announced yet

Usually in February, around Chinese New Year. In 2026 it was held on 27 and 28 February. 2027 dates not yet announced.

Singapore's large multicultural street parade, with elaborate costumes, colourful floats and performances from the island's communities. The 2026 theme was WISH. 2027 dates were not on the official page when we checked.

For families: Check seating and ticket details on the official site before you fix flights, and plan a rest in the afternoon before an evening show. Hotels get busy around Chinese New Year.

August

Singapore Night Festival

Bras Basah.Bugis precinct Dates not announced yet

Usually three weekends from late August into early September. 2027 dates not yet announced.

Museums, heritage buildings and streets in the Bras Basah.Bugis area turn into an open-air art trail with light installations, projection art and performances. The 2026 edition was themed Myths and Legends and ran until 5 September.

For families: It is an evening, on-foot festival. Go early, wear comfortable shoes and keep a short list of installations rather than trying to see everything.

Little India Dates confirmed for 2026

3 Oct 2026 to 29 Nov 2026 · Dates from Little India Shopkeepers and Heritage Association (LISHA), checked 23 Oct 2026

Singapore's biggest Deepavali celebration: more than 2 km of lights along Serangoon Road, with the main venues around Serangoon Road, Campbell Lane and Birch Road. In 2026 the festival village is running from 10 October to 8 November. The dates follow Deepavali, so they move every year.

For families: The lights stay on until midnight, so you do not need to go at the busiest hour. Pick a weekday evening, eat early and keep the walk slow. Festival weekends are busy, so book your stay early.

Quick questions

Which event suits parents best?

Deepavali in Little India. It is familiar, runs for about eight weeks and the lights are on until midnight, so you can choose a quiet evening. Chingay and the Night Festival are one-off weekends with more standing and walking.

Are these dates confirmed?

The windows on this page are typical timing. Where we give 2026 dates, those are what the organisers published. Deepavali moves each year and organisers announce details late, so check each official page before booking flights.

Do we need to book ahead?

Book your stay early for any festival weekend. For event tickets or seating, follow each official page, as arrangements change every year.

Are these events held every year?

Yes, all three are annual. Deepavali's dates follow the festival and move each year, Chingay is held around Chinese New Year, and the Night Festival runs in late August to early September. Organisers announce exact dates on their official pages, sometimes only a few months ahead.
