The ngultrum is1:1 with the Indian rupee. Tourism lists the Indian SDF at Nu./INR1,200 per person per night,600 for ages6 to below12, and none under6, checked23 October2026. This is a government levy, not the full trip price. Confirm hotels, guide and transport inclusions separately.

Cash and cards

Tourism says international cards are widely used in urban areas but facilities may not be available elsewhere. Keep some cash in ngultrum or Indian rupees rather than rely only on cards.

ATMs and fees

Ask your bank and the ATM operator about current fees. No fee, withdrawal limit or live exchange rate is quoted.

Backup plan

Our recommendation is some cash alongside cards. Commercial operator Bhutan Horizonte describes tips as voluntary, not an official fixed tariff. Agree expectations with your operator.

SIM / eSIM

Bhutan Tourism says visitor SIMs are available at Paro airport and Bhutan Telecom or TashiCell branches and authorised agents in towns. Check current registration documents, device compatibility and validity before choosing a plan.

Installing vs activating

No specific eSIM product is recommended here. Follow the selected operator and product instructions for compatibility, installation, activation and when validity begins.

Backup connectivity

Keep hotel and guide contacts offline. Check Indian roaming and bank OTP arrangements with your Indian operator. Do not assume hotel Wi-Fi replaces a mobile connection throughout the route.
