South Korea uses the won. Credit cards are widely accepted, though some stores may not take them. Pack for the season, and consider a transport card for subways and buses.

The official currency is the won. Visit Korea lists bills of 1,000, 5,000, 10,000 and 50,000 won, and coins of 10, 50, 100 and 500 won.
Cash and cards
Visit Korea says most businesses, including major hotels, department stores and general shops, accept credit cards such as Visa, MasterCard and American Express. Check availability before buying, as some stores may not accept them. Keep some won for small purchases.
ATMs and fees
The Visit Korea page does not list ATM details, so check withdrawal fees and limits with your own bank before you travel. For exchange, Visit Korea says to use a bank or authorized exchange center. Banks are generally open 09:00 to 16:00 on weekdays.
Backup plan
Carry a second card and some won in case a card is declined. Visit Korea says to check whether a bank accepts old currency notes before you visit.
