- Not published for the fort or Sam. Ask on the day
With parents, the rule is one main outing a day, a long rest after lunch, and no schedule that depends on climbing. Jaisalmer suits that, as long as you do not try to fit everything in.
1. What we could confirm
- Incredible India puts Sam Sand Dunes 40 km from Jaisalmer, with sunrise and sunset as the main draws, plus camel and jeep safaris.
- Rajasthan Tourism describes Jaisalmer Fort, or Sonar Quila, as a living fort with Jain temples from the 12th and 15th centuries inside.
- It lists Amar Sagar Lake about 7 km from the city, the Wood Fossil Park about 15 to 17 km out, and Vyas Chhatri at Bada Bagh.
- Incredible India lists Nathmal-ki-Haveli among the heritage stops, and Rajasthan Tourism lists a laser water show at Gadisar Lake.
2. What we could not confirm
We found no official step-free route, ramp, seating or restroom information for the fort, Sam dunes or the other stops, and no opening hours we could rely on. Ask your stay to check each one the day before.
3. The plan
- Day 1: arrive and keep it short. Check in, rest, and take one easy evening stop close to your stay.
- Day 2: the fort in the morning. Go early. Pick a car drop that is as close as your host can arrange, take the temples slowly, and rest after lunch. If your parents tire easily, stop at the first viewpoint and skip the rest.
- Day 3: Sam dunes, late. Leave in the afternoon for sunset and return after the evening programme, or return before dark if the road tires them. Book a car with a driver who waits.
4. Easy swaps
- Short on energy: swap Sam for Amar Sagar or Vyas Chhatri, which are closer.
- Parents who like quiet: drop the evening programme.
- Parents who do not do steps: ask your stay what is step-free before you pick the fort.
5. Desert nights
We found no official temperature for a Sam camp night, so ask your camp and carry a layer. Ask about the tent entry too, because the route from the car to the tent is the part that catches people out.
