If a pool is part of why you are choosing a hotel, check the particular facility for your dates and guests. A pool icon, photograph or the phrase "swimming pool" does not establish year-round opening, children's access, included entry or the hours you want to use it.
One hotel can have several different pool arrangements
Hilton Malta's official things-to-do page, checked 5 November 2026, describes two seasonal outdoor pools in its main pool area. It gives separate indoor-pool hours, with children's use from 8 AM to 7 PM daily and adult supervision for children under 16. Its Merkanti Beach Club section is labelled 16+ and says June to September. These are that property's displayed arrangements, not universal hotel rules.
The point is the distinction, not a promise for a future stay. Outdoor, indoor, splash and beach-club facilities can be different products with different conditions. Confirm which pool the offer refers to and whether it will actually operate on the dates you are booking.
Ask what your room rate includes
Check whether access is included for every booked guest, whether a particular pool or club needs a supplement, appointment or separate reservation, and whether the stated hours include the time your family may use it. Do not carry a general hotel amenity into a package inclusion without checking the actual rate.
A useful question is: "For our room, dates and guests' ages, which pools can we use, at what times, and at what total charge? Are any facilities seasonal, closed for work or separately booked? Please confirm the current restrictions and inclusions." An unanswered detail remains unconfirmed.
Check the route and entry, not only the water
For parents who need a manageable approach, ask about the full route from the room or lift to the poolside, steps, changing rooms, toilets, seating and the actual method of entering and leaving the water. A lift to the pool floor is not evidence of a usable pool entry.
If a child or non-swimmer is coming, ask the property about its actual rules, supervision arrangements and the relevant facility. Do not infer depth, lifeguard presence or suitability from a photograph or the words family pool. This guide does not verify swimming safety, equipment or medical suitability.
Keep a closure from deciding the whole holiday
Before paying a higher rate for a pool, read the change and cancellation terms and consider whether the room still works if the facility is unavailable. An amenity listing does not by itself establish compensation, a free move or a refund. If the hotel announces a change after booking, ask the hotel and booking provider what options apply before making a paid change.
Do not substitute a beach or another pool without its own access and operating checks. A shorter activity or a dry poolside break is also only an option if entry and seating are confirmed.
