A Kandy budget for two: the resident-rate trap, temple tickets and the full transfer

Do not use a Sri Lankan resident offer as an Indian visitor's hotel quote. Build a two-night Kandy total from gross room rates, both travellers' tickets and the complete arrival and departure plan.

A Kandy budget for an Indian couple should start with one room for two, both people's tickets and the entire arrival and departure. Do not start with a Sri Lankan resident offer and assume your Indian passport qualifies. The attractive number may be perfectly real and completely unavailable to you.

Checked 30 October 2026. This is a two-night, three-day budgeting worksheet, not a live hotel or vehicle quote. International flights, entry requirements, insurance and the rest of Sri Lanka sit outside the Kandy subtotal unless you add them explicitly.

The hotel offer that is not your quote

Queen's Hotel's own offers page currently advertises a full-board double stay starting at LKR 17,500 per person, double sharing, under an exclusive resident offer, for stays until 31 October 2026. That is not LKR 17,500 for a couple, and it is not evidence of an Indian tourist rate or a December booking. Ask about eligibility, exact dates, taxes and the actual amount for two before using any offer.

Earl's Regency's published flash offer makes the problem even clearer: its booking window was 13-23 June 2026 and stay window 13 June-23 July 2026. It explicitly limited the offer to Sri Lankans and Sri Lanka resident visa holders, with non-refundable, non-transferable payment. An old offer still being online does not extend its calendar or its audience.

Fill these six lines before choosing a tier

  • Room: two nights multiplied by the final nightly price for two adults. Record breakfast or other meals, taxes, service charges, cancellation and payment currency.
  • Arrival and departure: each actual endpoint, vehicle or operating service, bags, tolls, parking, waiting and any hotel pickup.
  • Local travel: the temple visit and, if chosen, a separate Peradeniya outing. Ask whether waiting and the return are included.
  • Meals: only meals not already included in the room, for both people. Add drinking water and any special dietary cost.
  • Admission: two eligible tickets for each attraction you actually intend to enter, plus optional activities priced separately.
  • Other costs and reserve: data, insurance allocation, card or cash-conversion fees and your chosen contingency. A reserve is money kept available, not an operator's charge.

The formula is 2 × gross room-night quote + both transfers + local travel + uncovered meals for two + admission for two + other costs + reserve. If any line is blank, the result is an incomplete subtotal, not a cheap trip.

A ticket number we can actually source

The Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic's FAQ publishes LKR 2,500 for SAARC visitors, the category relevant to Indian visitors. Two adults at that published rate make LKR 5,000. Confirm the current category, identification and fee at the official counter. The FAQ says machine-issued tickets are valid, not unofficial tickets or fees.

Its published inclusions name the temple and several museums, but inclusion does not guarantee every room is open or accessible at your visit. Do not buy a second museum product without asking what your first ticket covers.

Peradeniya's Department of National Botanic Gardens page gives the location and hours, but this check did not establish a reliable current admission amount from its readable fee section. Keep garden tickets as quote needed. Do not borrow the temple's SAARC category or a local-resident garden price just because both attractions are in Kandy.

Economy, comfort and premium are choices, not fake price bands

Economy: compare basic rooms on the same dates and occupancy, fewer paid visits and only transport you have verified can operate. Cheap but unusable does not win.

Comfort: price a room with the entrance, bathroom and lift you need, a suitable vehicle, planned meals and a shorter sightseeing list. Confirm facilities directly; a category label is not an access inspection.

Premium: use the selected suite, private transfer and chosen extras as written quotes. A resident honeymoon package is not a visitor entitlement. None of these tiers has a verified all-in market total here.

Do the rail and currency checks last, not never

A government notice dated 25 October 2026 suspended trains between Rambukkana and Peradeniya/Gampola until further notice. A later reopening was not established in this check. Ask the railway about the exact service and endpoint before budgeting a train arrival from an old timetable. Include any road replacement in the comparison.

Keep the worksheet in LKR first. The Central Bank explains that its indicative cross-currency rates are derived reference rates; they are not your card issuer's or cash provider's checkout quote. For an INR view, divide your LKR total by the provider's actual LKR-per-INR rate, then add any separate fees. If the quote is expressed the other way round, use that direction correctly. No fixed INR conversion is supplied here.

Compare the same nights, two adults, meal basis, cancellation terms and complete journey. Otherwise you are comparing a holiday with half a holiday. The cheaper one has an unfair advantage.

Sources and verification

Checked 30 October 2026. No accommodation, ticket or transport was booked; no live room availability or complete trip price is claimed.

Questions on this article

asked by readers, answered by us

Can an Indian tourist use a Sri Lankan resident hotel offer?

An Indian passport alone does not establish Sri Lankan resident eligibility. Ask the hotel to confirm eligibility, dates, the total for two, taxes and cancellation terms in writing. An old offer still online is not a current visitor quote.

What is the published temple admission for two Indian adults?

The temple FAQ publishes LKR 2,500 per SAARC visitor, giving LKR 5,000 for two adults at that rate. Confirm the current category, identification and fee at the official counter. This is admission, not a complete trip total.

Does this guide provide an all-in INR trip price?

No. Room, transfer and garden admission quotes remain trip-specific. Build the LKR total first, divide by your provider's actual LKR-per-INR rate, and add separate fees. An indicative reference rate is not the final payment rate.
