A no-onion-no-garlic lunch on a Krabi island tour: turn the request into a confirmed meal

If your island tour is already booked, contact the actual meal provider before the trip. A vegetarian request does not confirm no onion or garlic. Agree dishes, pastes, serving arrangements and a fallback in writing.

If your Krabi island tour is already booked and you need a no-onion-no-garlic lunch, contact the operator before the tour day. Ask who will prepare the food and whether the full meal, including pastes, sauces and garnish, can meet your exclusions. A booking note saying "vegetarian" is a request, not proof that the right meal will reach your boat.

Send the request to the person who can act on it

Start with the booking channel and ask it to confirm the request with the actual tour operator or catering team. Include your reference, tour date, passenger names and number of special meals. If the selling agent and boat operator differ, ask who accepted the food arrangement. Keep the reply with your booking rather than assuming a free-text note was read by the kitchen.

Barracudas Tour Krabi's own dietary page says its full-day tour lunches are cooked by its kitchen and that requirements should be sent before the day. Net Tours Asia's Four Islands longtail-tour page asks guests needing vegetarian food to say so when booking. These are examples of advance requests on particular tours, not a promise that every operator can provide a Jain menu.

Write your complete exclusions

Say "no onion and no garlic" explicitly. Add meat, fish, seafood, egg, fish sauce, oyster sauce, shrimp paste and meat stock if those are excluded. If you avoid root vegetables or other ingredients, list them too. Do not assume the words vegetarian, vegan or Jain will be interpreted as your own practice.

Ask the kitchen to check curry paste, seasoning mixes, fried-rice sauces, dressings, broth and garnish. A sauce or paste prepared earlier may be harder to change than the visible vegetables. Request a different dish if the base cannot be confirmed or changed. Removing onion after cooking is not the same as preparing the meal without it.

Confirm what will actually be served

Ask for the agreed dishes, the number of portions and how your meal will be identified. Is it a separate packed portion or a choice from a shared buffet? Who will point it out to you? Ask whether separate serving utensils are possible if that matters to your practice. Do not treat a lunchbox as evidence of a separate kitchen.

Keep food restrictions distinct from allergies. Barracudas states that its food is prepared in a shared kitchen and does not guarantee an allergen-free environment. That warning applies to its own operation; it is not an assessment of every Krabi tour. If you have an allergy, discuss it separately with the provider and do not rely on this article as medical advice or a safety certification.

Agree the cost and fallback before tour day

Ask if the special meal costs extra, whether the existing booking can be changed and what happens if the agreed meal cannot be supplied. Check the actual cancellation and refund terms before deciding to cancel. Neither a dietary request nor a failed request automatically establishes a refund right.

If the operator cannot confirm suitable food, ask about taking your own meal and whether it can be carried, stored and eaten under that tour's arrangements and the places it visits. Do not assume food can be bought or prepared at an island stop. Choose a backup that suits your diet and any allergy requirements; nuts are not a universal backup snack.

Use a short written confirmation

A draft to adapt: "For booking [reference] on [date], we need [number] meals without [complete list]. Can your actual kitchen prepare all dishes, pastes, sauces and garnishes accordingly? Please confirm the menu, how our portions will be identified, any extra cost and the alternative if this cannot be provided." This is a suggested message for your review, not one TripKeeper has sent.

Reconfirm before boarding and before eating

Show the guide the written agreement before departure and ask whether the special portions are present. At lunch, ask the serving person to identify the agreed meal and confirm any uncertainty before eating. A guide's broad "vegetarian" answer does not settle an unanswered ingredient question.

TripKeeper's Ao Nang vegetarian guide covers eating on land. This checklist focuses on the handoff between booking channel, kitchen and boat, where a dietary request can otherwise get lost. It is not an endorsement or booking of either operator cited.

Sources and limits

Checked 4 November 2026: Barracudas Tour Krabi: dietary requirements; Net Tours Asia: Four Islands longtail tour. These pages support advance discussion and operator-specific arrangements. No no-onion-no-garlic availability, special-meal price or refund outcome was confirmed for your actual booking.

Questions on this article

asked by readers, answered by us

Is a vegetarian booking note enough?

No. Ask the actual operator or kitchen to accept the full ingredient list and confirm the dishes and number of portions.

What else should I ask besides no onion and garlic?

State all your exclusions, including sauces, pastes, stock, egg and root vegetables where relevant. Do not rely only on a dietary label.

Does a separate lunchbox prove separate preparation?

No. Ask how the meal is prepared, identified and served. A packed portion can still come from a shared kitchen.

Can I assume the tour provides allergy-safe food?

No. Discuss allergies separately with the provider. Barracudas explicitly describes a shared kitchen and no allergen-free guarantee.

Can I take my own meal?

Ask the actual tour operator about carrying, storing and eating it under the tour and visited places' arrangements. This article does not confirm permission.

Will a failed request guarantee a refund?

No automatic refund is established here. Ask about the alternative and the actual cancellation/refund terms before deciding.
