February to August is Da Nang's dry half of the year. Vietnam Tourism's travel site is direct about the shape of it: January to April is warm, dry and relatively cool, while May to August turns seriously hot but delivers the best sea of the year. Within that, each month trades heat against crowds differently. Here is the honest read.

February: the Tet gamble

February itself is lovely: 23 to 27°C, rain down to 30 to 50 mm, and a calming sea. The gamble is Tet, the Vietnamese New Year, which often falls in late January or February. The country slows for several days: restaurants close, transport packs out, prices spike. If Tet matters to you culturally, go; if you want quiet, check the year's Tet dates before fixing yours.

March: the sweet spot

March is the month that guide calls a hidden gem, and it earns it: 25 to 30°C, rainfall at its lowest (20 to 30 mm), low humidity, and the sea at 26°C. For parents especially, this is the easiest month: warm without punishment, and crowds are moderate.

April: heat builds, then a holiday rush

April climbs past 30°C and the humidity starts to build. The last week of April brings Reunification Day (April 30) and May Day, a long domestic holiday that floods the coast. Book hotels well ahead for that window or finish your trip before it.

May to August: hot days, perfect sea

Afternoons regularly reach 35°C, and the humidity makes it feel heavier. The trade: the sea is at its best, 28 to 29°C and calm, and even in peak season the beach empties a few hundred metres from the main access points. This is also the domestic summer rush, so flights and beachfront hotels need booking early. The rhythm that works: out by 8 am, back indoors from noon to 3:30, beach again at 4:30.

What to book first

  • Hotels for any dates touching Tet, the April 30 to May 1 holiday, or June to August: these sell out and reprice first.
  • Flights as soon as dates are fixed; Indian summer holidays (May to June) overlap Vietnam's domestic peak.
  • Ba Na Hills tickets online a day or two ahead in the summer months; queues are the tax for buying at the gate.

Our 3-day Da Nang itinerary lays out the days, the Da Nang budget guide prices them, and the Vietnam travel guide handles the e-visa.

Questions on this article

asked by readers, answered by us

Which is the best month to visit Da Nang between February and August?

March. Temperatures sit at 25 to 30°C, rainfall is at its lowest for the year, humidity stays comfortable and crowds are moderate. It is also the easiest month for senior travellers.

Is Da Nang too hot in June or July?

Afternoons regularly reach 35°C and feel heavier with humidity. Sightsee from 8 am, stay indoors from noon to about 3:30, and return to the beach after 4:30. The sea is at its warmest and calmest in these months.

Does Tet affect a February trip to Da Nang?

Yes. Tet usually falls in late January or February and for several days restaurants close, transport fills up and prices spike. Check the year specific Tet dates before locking your flights.
