Georgia has quietly become one of the easiest Caucasus trips from India, because the route has something rare: a nonstop. Here is how the Delhi-Tbilisi options actually stack up, and the visa detail that decides who boards.
The nonstop: IndiGo, daily, evening arrival
IndiGo's 6E1807 flies Delhi (DEL, Terminal 3) to Tbilisi (TBS) nonstop, departing 17:20 and landing 22:45 local - a comfortable evening arrival that puts you in a hotel bed by midnight. The schedule runs daily on current listings, operated by an Airbus A320neo, with block time varying between about 5h20 and 6h55 depending on the day's schedule. Book 6-10 weeks out for the best fares; this is the only nonstop between India and Georgia.
One-stop options: when they make sense
flydubai via Dubai, Air Arabia via Sharjah and Azerbaijan Airlines via Baku all sell Delhi-Tbilisi one-stops, typically 9-13 hours door to door including the layover. They make sense in two cases: when the nonstop's fare spikes (holiday weekends), or when you are combining Georgia with Azerbaijan or the UAE on one trip. Compare total travel time, not just price - a Rs 4,000 saving for six extra hours is a poor trade with parents.
Train and road: ruled out
There is no practical rail or road route from India to Georgia - the overland path crosses Pakistan and Iran, with visa and border realities that make it a non-starter for a family holiday. Within the region, trains do matter later: Tbilisi-Baku and Tbilisi-Yerevan run overnight services if you extend the trip. But the India leg is a flight, full stop.
The visa wrinkle for Indians
Indian passport holders need a Georgia e-visa (apply at evisa.gov.ge, USD 20 fee, typically decided within about 5 working days - apply two weeks out to be safe). The big exception: Indians holding a valid visa or residence permit for the US, UK, Schengen states or GCC countries can enter Georgia visa-free for short stays - check the current list on mfa.gov.ge before assuming either way. Carry hotel bookings and return tickets; Georgian immigration asks. Once landed, our upcoming Tbilisi guides will cover the airport transfer, itineraries and budgets.
