Short answer: with family or luggage, take a taxi - about 30 minutes and S$25-45 metered to the Marina Bay area. Solo or light, the MRT is clean, easy and costs a couple of dollars. The decision points are your landing time (trains stop around midnight) and how much you are carrying, not price anxiety - Singapore's airport transfer is one of the easiest in Asia.
Taxi: the family default. Taxis queue at stands in the arrival halls of all four terminals - follow the signs, join the line, and you will rarely wait more than a few minutes. The ride to Marina Bay takes roughly 30 minutes in normal traffic and the meter shows S$25-45 depending on the time: an airport surcharge applies, and rides between midnight and 6 AM carry a 50% surcharge on the metered fare. All taxis are metered and regulated, so there is no negotiating and no scam risk - just confirm your hotel name and area. With parents, kids or more than two suitcases, this is money well spent.
Ride-hailing: same logic, app convenience. Grab and Gojek both operate at Changi with designated pickup points in the arrival areas - the apps show you exactly which door and lane to walk to. Prices track taxi fares closely, sometimes a little lower off-peak, sometimes higher in rain or rush hour. Useful if you prefer card payment and a tracked ride; for a first landing with elders, the official taxi queue is simpler.
MRT: cheap, spotless, and fine with one bag. Changi's MRT station sits between Terminals 2 and 3 (free Skytrain from T1, shuttle bus from T4). Take the train two stops to Tanah Merah, change to the East West Line towards Tuas Link, and ride to City Hall or Raffles Place - from there the North South Line runs one or two stops to Marina Bay station, and most Marina Bay hotels are a short walk from any of these three stations. Total journey: roughly 45-60 minutes including the change, for a couple of dollars per person. Pay by tapping any contactless bank card or phone at the gates - no card purchase needed. The catch: the last connecting train towards the city leaves around 11:20 PM, so late arrivals should plan on a taxi.
Landing after midnight. Trains are done and the MRT option closes. Taxis run all night from the same stands - expect the 50% midnight surcharge on the meter, which still lands a Marina Bay ride under about S$45-50. If your flight arrives very late, tell your hotel; most Marina Bay hotels note late check-ins without fuss.
Small things that matter with Indian families. Singapore taxis are strict about passenger count - a standard cab takes four adults maximum, so larger families should split into two cabs or book a 6-seater through the ride-hailing apps. Luggage rides free in the boot. Keep your hotel's full name and postal code handy - 'Marina Bay' covers several towers and drivers appreciate the exact one. And if anyone needs a wheelchair-accessible vehicle, ask at the taxi stand counter or book through the apps rather than hoping at the queue.
