Incheon airport is not in Seoul - it is on an island about 50 km west of Myeongdong, and the transfer is the first real decision of your Korea trip. The good news: every option is well organised, clearly signposted in English, and cheaper than the equivalent in Japan. Here is what each one costs and who it suits.
AREX: the train most people should take
The airport railroad runs two services from the Transport Center under Terminal 1 (T2 has its own station). The Express Train does Incheon to Seoul Station non-stop in 43 minutes for 13,000 won adult / 9,500 won child (AREX official fare table, June 2026), with assigned seats and luggage racks; buy online or at the B1 customer center, and note ticket holders board before T-money users. The All-stop Train takes 59 minutes and costs just 4,750 won with a transport card - the best value in Korean airport transfers. From Seoul Station, Myeongdong is two stops on subway Line 4 (about 5 minutes, 1,500 won-ish by T-money) or a short taxi hop. With light bags, the all-stop train plus Line 4 is the sweet spot; with kids and big suitcases, the Express's level boarding and racks earn the extra 8,000 won.
Airport buses: door-closest, not fastest
Two limousine buses serve the Myeongdong strip. Bus 6015 (17,000 won) drops at Lotte Hotel / ibis Myeongdong; bus 6701 (18,000 won) stops at the Haeun Center stop near Aloft and Le Meridien (operator K Limousine). Both take 60-80 minutes depending on traffic - longer than the train, but you step off near the hotel instead of wrestling bags through Seoul Station's corridors. Buses leave every 25-35 minutes; from T1 the 6701 runs 05:35 to 22:25 (T2: 05:15-22:05). Landing after about 21:30, do not count on a bus - check the night N6701 if you must, but its Euljiro drop may not be near your hotel.
Taxis: when four people or a late landing change the math
From the official taxi ranks outside arrivals (T1: lanes 5C-8C, T2: 7C-7D), a metered standard taxi to Myeongdong typically lands in the 65,000-90,000 won range with tolls extra, and night hours add 20-40% to the meter. The predictable option is the International Taxi fixed zone fare: Myeongdong sits in Zone C at 85,000 won standard / 120,000 won deluxe, tolls included, per vehicle (official airport tariff). For a family of four with luggage after a midnight landing, that is roughly the price of four bus tickets with zero stairs. Solo travellers in daylight should take the train.
What to check before you land
Three things save real hassle. First, your hotel's exact name and Korean address - "Myeongdong" covers a wide grid and the 6015 and 6701 drop at different ends; screenshot the address for taxi drivers. Second, your landing time against the last bus (22:25 from T1) and the night surcharge hours (23:00-02:00 is the expensive window). Third, your visa paperwork: Indian passport holders travelling in approved groups currently enjoy a visa fee waiver - details in our Korea visa fee waiver update. And if you are still choosing flights, our Delhi to Seoul flights guide compares the two nonstops that put you at Incheon in the first place.
