Tashkent's international arrivals come through Terminal 2, and the ride into the city is short and cheap if you set it up right - a Yandex Go to Amir Temur Square runs about UZS 40,000-70,000 (roughly $3-6, about Rs 250-500) and takes 20-40 minutes. The details that matter are below.
Before you land
Two things make arrival painless. First, install Yandex Go and add a card - Uber left Uzbekistan years ago and Yandex Go is the dominant app, showing a fixed price up front. Second, sort data: an eSIM activated before boarding, or buy a local SIM (Ucell, Beeline) at the arrivals hall counters. Without data you are negotiating in the dark, and that is when prices triple.
At Terminal 2
At the T2 arrivals exit, five licensed taxi firms load in the first lane alongside Yandex Go pickups - per oxusroad's arrival guide, the licensed firms charge from UZS 50,000 to the centre. Inside the terminal you will also meet freelance solicitors quoting two to four times that; the polite rule is the same as Almaty: never take the person who approaches you. If your phone is not working yet, use the official taxi desk inside the hall and agree the price before walking out. Domestic flights use Terminal 3, 4.8km away by road - if you have a same-day connection, budget 20 minutes for the shuttle or taxi between them.
The ride and the fare
The airport sits south of the centre, about 7km from Amir Temur Square. Traffic is the variable: 20 minutes on a Sunday morning, 40 in the evening rush. Yandex Go's Comfort class is worth the small premium with parents and luggage. Pay through the app or in cash som - drivers prefer cash, so withdraw or exchange a little at the airport ATM even if you plan to use cards elsewhere.
Small checks that save hassle
Screenshot your hotel's name and address in Cyrillic or Latin Uzbek before flying - drivers read addresses, not hotel brands. Keep UZS 100,000-150,000 in small notes for day one. And note your flight lands at T2 but some domestic-onward tickets (Samarkand, Bukhara, Fergana) leave from T3 - check the terminal on the ticket, not the airport name.
