If Google says “delayed” but the airline app says “on time”, do not use the disagreement as permission to leave for the airport later. First make sure both results describe the same flight, departure date and route. Then ask the operating airline to resolve the status and tell you which reporting instructions apply to your booking. This is a checking method, not a claim that one screen can never be wrong.
A status label is not a new reporting instruction
A delayed estimate, a revised itinerary and a message telling passengers when to report are not the same piece of information. When they conflict, the useful question is not “which app wins?” but “what does the airline handling this flight want me to do now?”
Do not calculate a new check-in, bag-drop or gate deadline by adding the displayed delay to an earlier time. No automatic extension is established by this article. Ask the operating airline to confirm the relevant instructions for this flight, and keep that reply with your booking. Exact deadlines, refund rights and compensation are outside this guide and remain unconfirmed here.
Compare the same record before comparing the status
Use this original comparison worksheet with the two results open. It is a checking aid, not a real airline or Google screenshot.
| Field to compare | What to check |
|---|---|
| Flight and operator | Match the flight number and the airline actually operating the segment, not just a familiar logo. |
| Departure date | Match the date on your booking for this departure. If an overnight date or timezone is unclear, ask the airline rather than choosing whichever search result looks plausible. |
| Route | Compare the departure and arrival airports, not only the city names. |
| Direction and event | Check whether you are reading departure or arrival information and the exact label beside the time. |
| Freshness | Note any update time and refresh the current official result. A forwarded screenshot cannot show later changes. |
| Instruction | Look separately for an airline message about reporting, rebooking or cancellation. A status estimate alone does not establish those instructions. |
If one field differs, you have not yet found a genuine contradiction. Resolve the flight identity first. Do not publish your booking reference, full boarding pass or personal details while asking a public forum to compare screenshots.
Where to check next
Air India's dated newsroom guide of 22 April 2025 describes checking flight status through its app or website, including My Trips. This supports going back to the carrier's own flight record. It does not establish that Google is always late, that an app is infallible or that every airline follows the same process.
Air India's current flight-status page and IndiGo's current status page are useful starting tools for their respective flights. These pages are undated. Treat the returned result as information to check for your flight, not a permanent rule quoted from this article. Use the actual operator's official channel for another airline.
No dated official primary source has been established here for Google's refresh interval, a universal accuracy ranking between Google and airline apps, or a rule saying a third-party delay changes airport reporting deadlines. Those points are unconfirmed. Do not turn a guess about data lag into travel instructions.
Ask a question staff can answer
Use a concise request through the airline's official support channel or desk:
“For my booked flight and departure date, Google and your app show different statuses. Please confirm the current status, the airport reporting and boarding instructions I should follow, and whether any revised itinerary has been issued.”
Show the booking privately if staff need it. If you are already at the airport, ask airline staff to check the exact flight and any relevant display listing. Do not walk away from the boarding area or change terminals solely because a search card shows a later estimate.
If you are coordinating an airport pickup
Tell the person collecting you which airport and flight you mean, and distinguish departure information from arrival information. Share the latest confirmed information as provisional if the airline has not resolved it. Do not describe a displayed arrival estimate as a guarantee that the passenger will be outside at that time.
A useful family update is: “The status sources disagree. I am checking with the airline; please do not change the pickup on this estimate alone.” Send a fresh update when there is something confirmed, not an old screenshot without its date or context.
Before you act on the answer
- Recheck that the reply is for your flight, date and route.
- Read the reporting instruction separately from the expected departure or arrival time.
- Keep the latest notice and support reply privately available.
- If the airline has not resolved the conflict, say so. Do not convert uncertainty into a later arrival plan or assume cancellation.
This is a sequence to work through, not a “30 minutes before departure” checklist. It does not set an airport-arrival time or promise that a response, rebooking or refund will arrive within a particular period.
Related help and sources
Check the terminal for the actual flight. Read boarding, departure and gate fields separately. If the airline confirms a long delay, use the separate delay-facilities guide rather than assuming a status label creates an entitlement.
