When booking for parents, ask what housekeeping will actually do during the stay. "Daily housekeeping" is not a detailed promise about the time the room will be cleaned, fresh linen every day, an immediate response or every extra item being included.
Start with the hotel and room type
Hilton's current help-center page, checked 5 November 2026, describes daily housekeeping at its Luxury, Full Service, Lifestyle and Embassy Suites hotels worldwide. It describes every-other-day service at Focused Service, Homewood Suites and Home2 Suites hotels in the U.S. and Canada. It also says guests can request additional services through the front desk and that service may be adjusted for local laws or other requirements.
Keep the brand and region attached to that wording. Do not convert it into "all Hilton hotels clean daily" or reuse an older blanket claim that housekeeping is only on request. The actual hotel's reply is still needed for your stay.
Room type can matter within one property too. Hilton Surfers Paradise's official FAQ describes daily service for hotel rooms but service after every third day for Residences. It says a Residence stay of three nights or less is not serviced during the stay and extra cleaning is available at an additional charge. That is one property's distinction, not a universal rule for apartments or Hilton hotels.
Separate the tasks you need
Ask what a normal stayover service includes: bed making, bathroom cleaning, bins, towels, linen and replenished items. Ask which parts follow a different schedule and which extras cost more. Do not infer a daily full clean or fresh sheets from the service label.
If your parents need extra towels, bedding or supplies, name the items and quantities. Requesting them is not the same as receiving confirmation of availability or delivery time. Check whether there is a charge before relying on the arrangement.
Agree how to request service
Ask which contact to use, whether a request needs to be made before a cutoff, and whether an approximate service window can be arranged. If they rest in the afternoon, explain that preference without assuming the hotel can promise an exact time. Confirm what happens when the room is occupied or a do-not-disturb sign is used. A general housekeeping page does not establish a property's entry procedure.
For a short stay, ask explicitly whether any service will occur before checkout. For a long stay, ask which days include the tasks that matter. Keep the hotel's reply with the reservation so the family does not have to reconstruct the arrangement at reception.
Recheck after a change
A move from a hotel room to a residence, a different property or changed dates may change the arrangement. Ask again rather than transferring the first answer. If the promised service has not happened, contact the front desk with the specific missing item or task. Do not assume a refund or free additional cleaning without the applicable terms or the hotel's agreement.
