If parents need a room until an evening pickup, put the required local date and time in the plan. Then confirm whether the hotel is accepting a request, offering a paid extension or confirming a particular late-checkout product. "We have noted it" is not the same answer as "your room is confirmed until this time."
Ask about the room you will actually keep
Give the reservation reference, travellers, booked room category and desired departure time. Ask whether the same room is retained or a move is needed, the accepted checkout time in the hotel's local time, the charge and taxes, and when the answer becomes final. A request that is decided on departure day is still uncertain before then.
Keep room access separate from luggage storage, lounge access, a shower or use of the pool after checkout. Ask about each facility you need, its hours, cost and usable route. A place to leave bags does not provide a room for rest.
A property example shows why the details matter
The Marriott Activities listing for Courtyard by Marriott Miami Airport's Guaranteed Late Checkout, checked 5 November 2026, says the option is offered on select dates for the original standard room type. Its details say it cannot be guaranteed for suites and describe a per-room fee plus tax. Those limits belong to that product, not all Marriott hotels or all late-checkout arrangements.
The same page shows a $0.00 total before a dated selection while also describing a fee and tax. Do not treat that initial display as a free or final quote. The captured listing does not establish a selected checkout time for your stay. Confirm the actual time, eligible room and final payable total before purchasing.
A separate add-on can need separate cancellation
That listing expressly says cancelling the room reservation on Marriott.com does not automatically cancel the separately booked late-checkout reservation. It describes a cancellation deadline and charges, but uses different date anchors in its summary and detailed wording. The precise deadline for a booking is unconfirmed here. Check the dated confirmation and resolve that wording before paying.
For any separate product, keep its own reference, seller, cancellation route, deadline and payment terms. If you cancel or change the room, check what must happen to the add-on too. Do not assume changing one reservation changes the other, or that free room cancellation covers an extension.
Do not turn membership into a blanket promise
If you plan to use a membership benefit, verify the current programme terms for the property, rate, status and dates, and ask what has been accepted for this stay. This guide does not establish a universal late-checkout entitlement. Do not buy an add-on until you know whether an applicable benefit already covers the need.
Make the fallback real before departure day
If the room is unconfirmed, ask about a separately priced day room or other actual rest option and its terms. Check availability and cost rather than relying on it as a guaranteed fallback. Align the pickup with the confirmed room departure time and the actual baggage collection route. A late flight does not automatically extend hotel room access.
