Hong Kong surprises Indian couples in both directions: hotels cost more than you expect, and almost everything else costs less. A comfortable mid-range 4-night trip for two - good Tsim Sha Tsui hotel, local food, the Peak, the ferries - lands at roughly Rs 1.8-2.1 lakh including flights. Here is the breakdown, line by line, with the source of every number. All Hong Kong dollar figures convert at about Rs 12.2 per HK$1, the October 2026 average rate (exchangerates.org.uk).
Flights: the fixed chunk
From Delhi, typical return fares run Rs 30,695-47,065 per person on Kayak's tracked averages - call it Rs 61,000-94,000 for the two of you, with IndiGo, Air India and Cathay Pacific all flying the route. Booking 6-8 weeks out and flying Tuesday-Wednesday keeps you at the lower end. Route options, airlines and the PAR registration Indian passports need are in our Delhi to Hong Kong flights guide.
Hotels: where the money goes
Hotels will be 40-50% of your on-ground spend, so choose the district before the hotel. A 2026 tracker of 1,200 Hong Kong properties (globaltravelexplore.com, checkout prices including taxes) puts the average mid-range night at HK$1,350 in Tsim Sha Tsui, HK$980 in Mong Kok, and HK$1,650 in Central; budget rooms average HK$550 in TST and HK$420 in Mong Kok. A second source with a different method - stayversus.com's median of 242 Agoda hotels, updated 22 October 2026 - lands in the same range, with TST its cheapest tracked district at about 55 euros a night and November the priciest month citywide. Four mid-range TST nights: about HK$5,400, or Rs 66,000.
Food: cheaper than you fear
Eat where office workers eat and food is genuinely affordable. A 2026 Hong Kong food price guide (hong-kong-food-tour.com, updated 1 October 2026) puts street food and local eateries at HK$30-60, cha chaan teng breakfasts at HK$40-70, dim sum baskets at HK$25-35 in Mong Kok, and a full local-style day at HK$150-300 per person. Vegetarians need a little more planning. Four days of local eating for two: about HK$2,000, or Rs 24,000. Swap one dinner for a harbour-view restaurant and add HK$400-600.
Transport: the cheap part
The MTR Tourist Day Pass costs HK$75 per adult for unlimited rides (mtr.com.hk) - two passes over four days is HK$600, about Rs 7,300. Add the airport run: Airport Express plus MTR is HK$120 per person each way, or the A21 bus down Nathan Road at HK$34.6 for a third of that, per our airport to TST guide. The Star Ferry crossing is HK$5.0-6.5 per adult - the cheapest sightseeing in the city. Transport for two, four days: about HK$1,100, or Rs 13,000.
Activities: one big ticket, many free ones
The one paid anchor is Victoria Peak: the Special Combo of Peak Tram return plus Sky Terrace 428 is HK$342 per adult (thepeak.com.hk, checked 31 October 2026). Beyond that, Hong Kong's best experiences are free or near-free - the TST waterfront and light show, Nan Lian Garden, the markets, and the HK$5 Star Ferry. Budget about HK$1,000 (Rs 12,000) for two including the Peak and incidentals. Our 3-day Hong Kong itinerary shows how these pieces fit a relaxed schedule.
The honest total
Adding it up for a mid-range 4-night couple trip: hotels HK$5,400 + food HK$2,000 + transport HK$1,100 + activities HK$1,000 = about HK$9,500 on the ground, roughly Rs 1.15 lakh, plus Rs 61,000-94,000 flights. Total: about Rs 1.8-2.1 lakh. Go budget-hotel in Mong Kok and eat fully local and it drops toward Rs 1.4 lakh; go five-star on the harbour and it clears Rs 4 lakh. Hong Kong scales both ways - the middle is simply very good value.
