Tashkent is one of the cheapest capitals an Indian family can fly to directly. The numbers below use October 2026 prices, with UZS 1,000 roughly equal to Rs 7 (check the live rate before you go - the som moves slowly but it moves).
Hotels
Mid-range private rooms in well-located hotels run UZS 375,000-875,000 a night (about $30-70, or Rs 2,650-6,200), per current Tashkent budget listings. That band gets you a clean three-star near the metro with breakfast. International four-stars (Wyndham, Hyatt) sit at $90-150. Guesthouses and apartment rentals dip to UZS 200,000-400,000 for couples comfortable with simpler stays. Book spring and autumn 6-8 weeks ahead; Tashkent fills for Navruz (21 March) and the September-October harvest season.
Food
Uzbek food is hearty and cheap: a plate of plov runs UZS 25,000-50,000 (Rs 180-360), samsa pastries UZS 8,000-15,000, and a full chaikhana teahouse lunch for two with salads, bread, shashlik and tea lands around UZS 120,000-200,000 (Rs 850-1,400). Tourist-strip restaurants near Amir Temur Square run about double the local chaikhana price for the same dishes - walk two blocks and the price halves.
Transport
The metro costs UZS 2,500 a ride with electronic payment (3,000 cash) - under Rs 20 - and covers most sightseeing hops. Yandex Go rides inside the city run UZS 15,000-30,000 (Rs 100-210); the airport run is UZS 40,000-70,000 as our transfer guide details. A couple using the metro twice and taxis twice a day spends under UZS 100,000 (Rs 700) on transport.
Activities and the daily total
Most of Tashkent's best sights are free or nearly so: Chorsu Bazaar, Khast Imam's courtyards, the metro stations themselves, Amir Temur Square. The Museum of Applied Arts and a few house-museums charge small entries (UZS 25,000-60,000). Add it up for a mid-range couple: hotel UZS 500,000-700,000, food UZS 300,000-500,000, transport UZS 80,000-120,000, activities UZS 50,000-150,000 - roughly UZS 1.0-1.5 million a day, about Rs 9,000-18,000. Current budget guides put mid-range Tashkent at $64-160 per person per day, which squares with that. On top: flights (Rs 18,000-30,000 return per the Delhi-Tashkent flights guide) and the $20 e-visa per person.
