Any article that gives you one Jaisalmer price for a couple is quoting a particular camp on a particular night. We would rather show you how to build the number than hand you one that is wrong by the time you read it.
1. The lines that make up the total
- Getting there. Jaisalmer has its own railway station and a civil airport. Price your own city to Jaisalmer, both ways, from the airline or IRCTC.
- Stay. Nights in the city, and a separate line for a desert camp night if you want one.
- Local transport. A car with a driver for the day to Sam, which Incredible India puts 40 km from the city. Closer stops like Amar Sagar (about 7 km) and the Wood Fossil Park (about 15 to 17 km) are shorter hops.
- Activities. Camel or jeep safari at Sam, entry to the fort and other sites, an evening programme if you want one.
- Food. Three meals a day, with one camp dinner if it is included.
- Buffer. A line for tips, water, small purchases and one thing that goes wrong.
2. Three tiers, no invented numbers
- Lean: train, a simple stay, shared or short car hops, one paid activity.
- Middle: your preferred train class or a flight, a stay with breakfast, a private car for Sam, safari and one camp night.
- Premium: flight, a stay inside or close to the fort, a camp with meals included, and a driver for the whole stay.
Get a written quote for each line in your chosen tier from at least two providers. Ask what is included: meals, camel ride, folk programme, transfers, taxes.
3. Where the total moves
- Season: Incredible India puts the best time at November to March, which is also when demand rises. Book early for those dates.
- Camp nights are the biggest swing. Compare what each includes before you compare totals.
- Ask whether entry tickets are paid at the gate, and whether a camera has a separate fee.
4. What we could not confirm
No official page we checked gives a hotel rate, camp rate, safari price or fort ticket. Some older blog posts mention numbers. They are undated and we have not used them.
