Khuri is a dune day trip from Jaisalmer. The official pages are thin: they name Khuri, list what you can do there, and stop. We will not invent a drive time or a price. What follows is a schedule you can fill in once your driver gives you the real numbers.
1. What Rajasthan Tourism says
- Camel and camel cart safaris run at Sam sand dunes and at Khuri sand dunes.
- These are mainly offered by local camel owners, and some resort or camp operators include camel rides in their packages.
- Jeep safari or dune bashing is listed at Lakhmna dunes and on some isolated dune tracks near Sam and Khuri.
- Camping is best between October and March.
2. What we could not confirm
We found no official page with the road distance or drive time from Jaisalmer to Khuri, camel or jeep rates, sunset time on the dunes, or entry rules. Fares here are set by operators, so agree them before you start. We have not surveyed the site.
3. A sample schedule
Work backwards from the time you want to be back in Jaisalmer.
- Fix your latest return time at the hotel first. Add a buffer of at least an hour for delays at the dunes.
- Subtract the drive time your driver quotes. That is the latest you can leave the dunes.
- Put the camel or jeep ride in the hour or two before that. Dunes are better in low sun, so ask for the sunset time for your date.
- Leave in the late morning or after lunch, not at dawn. Use the earlier hours in town, for the fort or a lake stop.
- If you want to stay for the dusk show at a camp, book the return car for after it, or stay overnight instead.
4. Settle before you leave
- One total price for car, waiting time and return, in writing or a message.
- Camel ride length and the rate, and whether a jeep ride is separate.
- Where the car waits, and who is responsible if you run late.
- Whether you are going on a day where the camp or operator is open. Check by call.
5. Practical
- Carry water, a scarf or hat, and sunglasses for sand.
- Keep phone charge for the drive back. Do not assume signal on the dunes.
- If anyone dislikes camels or bumpy rides, the dunes are still worth a walk. Say so to the operator up front.
