People pair Jodhpur and Jaisalmer because the desert trip looks easy on a map. It is a long leg, so pick the chain before you book anything else.
1. What the official pages say
- Rajasthan Tourism's Jaisalmer page lists Jodhpur at 286 km, and its Hindi page gives Jodhpur airport as the nearest airport at 284 km. The two pages differ by 2 km, so treat it as roughly 285 km.
- It says Jaisalmer has a civil airport, with direct flights from Jaipur, Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore and Surat listed.
- It says Jaisalmer is connected to Jodhpur, Bikaner and Jaipur by bus and taxi, and has a direct train to Delhi.
2. Three chains
- Fly to Jaisalmer directly. If your home city is on the listed routes, you skip the Jodhpur leg altogether. Check the airline site for the current schedule, since the tourism page may be older than the timetable.
- Fly or train into Jodhpur, then road. Jodhpur airport is domestic and doubles as an Indian Air Force base on Rajasthan Tourism's page. After you land you still have a roughly 285 km transfer by bus or taxi.
- Train between the two. Rajasthan Tourism confirms a train to Delhi but gives no Jodhpur to Jaisalmer timetable. Look up trains and classes on IRCTC and book early for your date.
3. Booking friction to expect
- A train seat can sell out on a winter weekend. A taxi is the fallback, with its price agreed first.
- Do not tie a same-day flight out of Jodhpur to a road leg from Jaisalmer. Add a night.
- If you take a taxi, ask whether the quote covers tolls and waiting.
4. What we could not confirm
We found no official fare, journey time or current train number for Jodhpur to Jaisalmer, so we give none. Check live timetables before you plan the day.
