Illustration: a fictional family checks ticket options at a generic metro counter. No actual Kolkata ticket, payment QR, app screen or gate validation is shown.
Do not assume Kolkata Metro QR tickets are still universally Green-only, or that every QR covers every line. The answer depends on the actual ticket product, journey and purchase channel. The official enquiry page retains older Green-only wording, while later reporting describes wider QR availability. A rejected ticket needs a status and coverage check, not a blanket rule inferred from an old page.
The published evidence does not form one clean current rule
The operator's enquiry page, marked reviewed 25 May 2026, says paper/mobile QR tickets apply to Green Line and names the old Salt Lake Sector V-Sealdah and Esplanade-Howrah Maidan sections. It also says composite interline tickets are counter-only. We can verify that the page says this, but its review label does not prove every paragraph was updated for later ticketing changes.
A 12 March 2024 primary release describes the earlier integrated-counter-ticket and Green QR distinction. A 22 March 2024 primary release describes the then Metro Ride Kolkata app and East-West QR flow. Both are dated historical evidence, not today's complete fare-media matrix.
Later Times of India reporting dated 12 September 2024 says integrated mobile QR was introduced on a trial basis on Blue, Orange and the Howrah Green section. A 30 August 2025 PTI report carried by The Week says paper and mobile QR had extended across all corridors from 25 August 2025. These are attributed news reports, not operator instructions independently verified here from a dated primary rollout notice.
The 24 October 2025 PIB release confirms inauguration of an updated Aamar Kolkata Metro app for online ticket booking. It does not supply the detailed current line-by-line or interline coverage needed to settle every journey. We therefore do not turn the older Green-only page or the wider news claim into an unconditional November 2026 rule.
A line-by-line evidence matrix, not a live sales guarantee
Current purchase availability, precise cross-line coverage and fare conditions remain unconfirmed here unless your actual channel or station staff confirms them. This original matrix records source scope rather than inventing yes/no availability.
| Line | Evidence found | What still needs checking |
|---|---|---|
| Green | Official enquiry lists QR with old split-section wording; 2024 primary sources describe QR. | Your current origin/destination, channel and any interline continuation. |
| Blue | September 2024 news reports integrated mobile QR introduction; August 2025 news reports wider availability. | Current product and actual journey coverage; a Green-only paragraph is not enough to reject all Blue QR. |
| Orange | The same 2024 integrated-QR and 2025 all-corridor news reports. | Current operating section, sales option and onward-ticket scope. |
| Purple | August 2025 news reports QR extension. | Dated primary rollout detail and today's purchase/ticket conditions not established here. |
| Yellow | August 2025 news reports QR extension. | Dated primary rollout detail and today's purchase/ticket conditions not established here. |
A payment QR is not the journey QR
The 21 May 2024 PIB release describes scanning a counter display QR to pay by UPI, after which a paper QR ticket is generated. That dated example illustrates two separate objects: the payment request and the travel ticket. A successful debit is not, by itself, the ticket you should present at the fare gate.
Likewise, smart-card recharge is not the same product as a single-journey mobile QR. An app offering one service does not establish that every ticket, line pair or direction is available in its current booking screen. Read the actual product and intended journey before paying.
If the ticket works on one leg but fails at the next
Step aside and show staff the original ticket, selected origin/destination, purchase channel, exact gate message and where you already entered. Ask whether this is a coverage issue, ticket-status issue, wrong reader or another problem. Do not diagnose it solely from the line colour or assume a new purchase will fix a recorded exit problem.
Ask what valid option applies to the intended continuation and what happens to the original order before paying again. Keep order and bank references separately. No free correction, penalty waiver, refund deadline, screenshot acceptance or automatic paid-area transfer is promised here.
What to check before buying for parents
State the final destination, not only the first interchange. Confirm every required line, whether one product covers the whole journey, where each ticket is shown and how entry/exit is handled. Keep the ticket accessible to the people travelling. If current official information and the booking screen disagree, ask staff before crossing a gate.
Reviewed 6 November 2026. Public source comparison only; no live app purchase, account access, gate test or fare-media trial was performed. The matrix is labelled by evidence, not a claim that every option is sold today. Dated primary proof of the reported later line-by-line expansion was not found in this review.
