Aadhaar is not the only identity document listed by IndiGo for a domestic flight. If you are an adult Indian traveller, check the alternatives below before assuming you must cancel your trip. This is IndiGo's published list, not a promise about every airline or every traveller.

What IndiGo lists

Its Travel Documents page says a passenger should carry a valid photo identity document in original. Alternatives include a valid passport, valid driving licence, Election Photo Identification Card and PAN card. It also lists Aadhaar/M-Aadhaar, certain employer photo IDs, a nationalised bank passbook with attested photograph, a pension card or pension document with a photograph, and the disability photo ID or medical certificate described on its page.

Use a document that is valid and clearly identifies the traveller named on the ticket. Do not treat this as approval for an expired passport: the page expressly says "Valid Passport". If that is your only document, ask the airline before travelling.

DigiLocker: issued is not uploaded

IndiGo says Aadhaar, PAN or driving licence shown after logging into the "Issued Documents" section of DigiLocker count as valid photo identity documents. Files you upload yourself in "Uploaded Documents" do not. A scanned card saved in a folder is not the same thing.

Check you can open the issued document before leaving home. Carry an accepted original where possible rather than relying on an unfamiliar screenshot or a phone that may lose power. The source lists M-Aadhaar separately; it does not say every photograph of a card is accepted.

Check your own case

Foreign nationals travelling domestically are treated differently: the page says their passport is the only valid photo ID. This guide does not cover children, unaccompanied minors, Nepal/Bhutan travel or international departures. Those have separate document rules.

Confirm your airline's current list, match the traveller's name, and keep the booking details ready. A domestic identity document is not a substitute for a passport and any required visa on an international trip.

Quick questions

Is Aadhaar compulsory for this IndiGo domestic case? No. IndiGo lists other valid photo identity documents for adult Indian travellers.

Can I use a self-uploaded DigiLocker scan? Not under the rule quoted here. IndiGo distinguishes Issued Documents from Uploaded Documents.

Does an expired passport work? The source says valid passport. Do not infer that an expired one is accepted.

Does this apply to foreign nationals? No. IndiGo says their passport is the only valid photo ID for domestic travel.
