Illustration: a fictional family pauses near a generic tourist plaza with an imagined monument and cart. Not Taj East Gate Metro, the Taj Mahal entrance, a verified cart pickup or a step-free access survey.
"Taj East Gate" on the Metro is not proof that you have reached the monument's Eastern Gate. Plan a separate last leg from the actual Metro exit to the correct visitor approach, then through the monument's own entry process. With parents, settle the permitted drop, walking and assistance before choosing the station.
Keep three different places separate
- Metro station: the rail stop and the exit you use.
- Approach or parking: the point where a vehicle can drop you or where a local battery service starts.
- Monument entry: the gate and visitor process for the actual visit.
UPMRC's annual report for the year ended 31 March 2025 records the Taj East Gate-Mankameshwar priority corridor. That is dated Metro project evidence, not a gate-to-monument walking survey or a guarantee of today's service. Do not equate a named corridor endpoint with an ASI entrance.
Other unofficial pages disagree on the most suitable station and distance. This guide does not rank a nearest Metro station without matching the actual monument approach and checking the complete path. A Jaipur Metro page cannot answer an Agra access question.
What official visitor pages describe
The Agra district page and UP Tourism visitor guidance, retrieved on 6 November 2026 without a clear content-update date, describe vehicle restrictions near the monument and parking-to-gate battery buses/golf carts. UP Tourism names Shilpgram for the Eastern Gate approach and Amrood ka Teela for the Western Gate approach.
These are attributed visitor-approach descriptions, not confirmation of a cart waiting at your Metro exit. They do not establish a current pickup bay, dispatch interval, working hours, step-free boarding or vehicle capacity for your group. Ask where the permitted drop and current boarding point actually are.
The official entry page describes Eastern and Western Gates and labels the Southern Gate closed for entry. That undated description is not permission to follow an old lane shortcut or arrive at any gate at any time. Confirm the appropriate current approach for your visit through the monument's official information and actual ticket instructions.
Do not assume one free shuttle covers the whole journey
The district page describes free battery buses and paid golf carts, while UP Tourism's visitor guidance gives ticket-category-related cart inclusions and a charge for Indian visitors. Rather than merging those descriptions, confirm the specific vehicle, current fare and whether anything is included for your actual ticket. No free end-to-end Metro-to-monument transfer is established here.
Before accepting a local ride, confirm its destination as the permitted approach for your intended entry, not merely "Taj". Ask where you get off and how much walking remains. Do not assume an auto, taxi or electric vehicle can take you through every restriction or directly into the monument.
A last-leg handover worksheet
| Segment | What to ask | What not to assume |
|---|---|---|
| Metro platform to exit | Current exit, working lifts and street approach | The station name identifies the monument gate |
| Exit to permitted drop/parking | Actual route or vehicle, total price and exact endpoint | Every vehicle reaches the same point |
| Parking or pickup to entry | Current battery service, boarding, queue and remaining walk | A cart is waiting or included in the Metro fare |
| Entry onwards | Visitor checks, assistance and the parts of the visit the parents want | Gate arrival proves an entirely step-free visit |
| Return | Meeting point, reverse-direction ride and current Metro service | The outward handover automatically reserves the return |
Suggested question: "We are using [Metro station] for the Taj Mahal [actual visit/gate instruction], with [people and walking needs]. Which exit and permitted drop should we use today, where does battery transport board, what is the total cost and what walk remains?" This original note is a question set, not a field-verified route.
For parents and mobility equipment
Ask separately about station lifts, the street or parking path, cart steps/ramp and help at the monument. A wheelchair listing on a visitor page does not reserve one or establish where it can be collected, whether equipment can travel in the cart or how assistance continues inside.
Confirm the actual equipment, collection/return point, any charge and the permitted route before relying on it. Plan a rest or turnaround point if the full visit is too much. Do not infer medical suitability from the word accessible or a short map distance.
Walking needs an actual path check
No Metro-exit-to-gate distance was measured for this article. Pavement continuity, crossings, surfaces, shade, current construction and lift availability were not inspected. There are no claimed local route photos, numbered exits or turn-by-turn shortcuts here.
Compare walking with a suitable transfer only after checking the complete permitted approach. Use the current official monument information for your visit date and check current Metro service separately. Monument tickets, local rides and Metro travel are different products; none automatically grants entry or assistance on the others.
Reviewed 6 November 2026 from public sources. No station/monument visit, cart ride, ticket purchase, measured walk, assistance reservation or accessibility survey was performed. Current route, price, vehicle availability and assistance handover remain to be confirmed.
