Spring (late March to May) and autumn (late September to early December) are the most comfortable times for most Indian visitors. Spring brings cherry blossoms but also crowds and higher prices. Winter is among the cheapest times. Summer is hot and humid, and August and September can bring typhoons. Carry yen cash, because JNTO calls Japan very much a cash-based society, plus a Visa, JCB or Mastercard credit card. Use an unlocked phone for a local SIM or rent pocket Wi-Fi, and pack for the season you travel in.
