One-stop routings through London, Frankfurt, Amsterdam or the Gulf run 19 to 23 hours total. Indians need a Canadian visitor visa before travel - see our visa guide. Toronto runs 9.5 hours behind India in summer and 10.5 in winter, so plan a gentle first day.

Layovers
The nonstops are the comfortable pick with children or seniors - one long hop instead of two. If fares or dates push you to a connection, the easiest one-stop routings run through London Heathrow (British Airways or Virgin Atlantic, about 19 hours), Frankfurt (Lufthansa) or Amsterdam (KLM, about 19 hours); Gulf routings via Dubai, Doha or Abu Dhabi run 21 to 23 hours and often win on price or on splitting the trip into two gentler legs. Most Indian travellers on a single ticket transit airside without extra visas, but rules differ by hub and exemption - check the transit-visa rules for your exact routing when booking.
When to book
Compare Air Canada and Air India on Delhi-Toronto - both fly it nonstop and fares move independently; the Delhi-Vancouver nonstop is Air India only. Fares climb sharply around the Canadian summer (June to August), Diwali and the December holidays - book 3 to 5 months ahead for those windows. Every family member needs a Canadian visitor visa before check-in (India is visa-required; the eTA exception covers only a few status cases such as US green-card holders) - see our Canada visa guide for documents, fees and processing times.
For parents and seniors
Sixteen-plus hours is a real haul: the nonstops leave Delhi late night or early morning and land the same local day (Toronto is 9.5 hours behind in summer). Seniors usually prefer the single nonstop hop over a 19-hour connection. Request wheelchair assistance at booking (Delhi, Pearson and Vancouver airports all handle it well), choose aisle seats near the toilets, keep medicines in cabin baggage, and plan a light first day - the time difference hits harder on the way out than on the way home.
