Da Nang International Airport sits unusually close to everything: Vietnam Airlines puts it about 3 km from the city centre, and My Khe Beach, just across the Han River, is a 10 to 15 minute ride in normal traffic. The transfer is simple, but a few small decisions at the arrivals hall decide whether it costs you 80,000 VND or three times that. Here is the honest picture.
Your three real options
Metered taxi from the rank. Ranks sit right outside the arrival halls of both terminals. Take Mai Linh (white and green) or Vinasun (white and red); both are metered and reputable. One current route guide quotes 80,000 to 150,000 VND to My Khe Beach, while Vietnam Airlines quotes 60,000 to 100,000 VND for central hotels. The difference is distance and traffic, so treat these as separate estimates, not a range to average.
Grab (ride-hailing). The easiest option for most Indian families. Vietnam Airlines lists ride-hailing at 40,000 to 130,000 VND depending on car type and time of day, with the fare locked in the app before you confirm. There is a designated ride-hailing pick-up zone; book on the airport Wi-Fi if your eSIM is not active yet.
Hotel pick-up. Many My Khe hotels arrange a car, sometimes free for direct bookings, sometimes priced like a taxi. Confirm by email before you fly and keep the driver's name and plate handy.
What about the bus?
There is no airport shuttle. City buses leave from Nguyen Van Linh Street, a 5 to 10 minute walk from the terminal: Vietnam Airlines lists the fare at 8,000 VND, while a route guide quotes bus 12 toward the beach at 20,000 VND and 30 to 40 minutes. With luggage, parents, or an evening arrival, the saving is not worth the walk.
What to check before you land
- Grab installed and logged in on your phone, with your hotel saved by its exact name.
- Cash in small notes. Many taxis still prefer Vietnamese Dong; 50,000 and 100,000 notes keep change simple.
- Ignore touts inside the terminal. Anyone offering a ride before the exit is unlicensed; walk to the rank or your Grab pin.
- Late arrivals: taxis and Grabs thin out after midnight. On a late flight, pre-book the hotel car.
- Travelling with parents? Take a taxi or hotel car door to door. The walk to the bus stop with bags is the one part of this transfer that can genuinely go wrong.
