Sapa is one of Vietnam's better-value mountain trips, but the final number depends on three choices: how you get there from Hanoi, where you sleep, and whether you do Fansipan. Here is what an Indian couple should budget for 3 days and 2 nights in 2026, with the weekend traps flagged. Rough conversion used below: 100,000 VND is about 340 rupees.
The short answer
Excluding your India to Hanoi flights, a couple should budget roughly:
- Careful budget: about 4.5 to 5.5 million VND (Rs 15,000 to 19,000) for two, using sleeper buses, a simple hotel and one paid sight.
- Comfortable: about 7 to 9 million VND (Rs 24,000 to 31,000) for two, with limousine vans, a mid-range valley-view hotel, restaurant meals and the full Fansipan trip.
- Treat yourself: 14 million VND and up (Rs 48,000+), adding a resort like Silk Path Grand or an ecolodge, plus premium train berths.
Getting there and back: 1.4 to 2.2 million VND for two
The limousine van is the sweet spot for couples: 350,000 to 550,000 VND per person each way, hotel pickup in Hanoi, 5.5 to 6 hours. Standard sleeper buses run 300,000 to 450,000 VND. The overnight train to Lao Cai costs more once you add the station-to-Sapa transfer, but many couples find it the most restful; our Hanoi to Sapa route comparison has the full math. Budget 1.4 to 2.2 million VND return for two on the van, and see our Lao Cai station transfer guide if you take the train.
Hotels: 500,000 to 2.4 million VND per night
A clean budget double with a bathroom runs 250,000 to 600,000 VND on weekdays. A mid-range room with breakfast and a valley view is 550,000 to 1,200,000 VND, and well-reviewed resorts start around 2.4 million VND. The trap is timing: the same room that costs 1,000,000 VND on a Tuesday can jump to several million on a festival or holiday weekend, and Friday and Saturday nights price higher year-round. Booking two to three weeks ahead, Sunday to Thursday, is the single biggest saving in this whole list.
Food: 400,000 to 1,000,000 VND per day for two
Local rice plates, pho and banh mi cost 20,000 to 50,000 VND per dish near the market. A sit-down restaurant dinner for two is 250,000 to 400,000 VND, and the famous salmon hotpot for two runs 500,000 to 600,000 VND. Eating one restaurant meal a day and local food otherwise, a couple spends 400,000 to 600,000 VND daily; eating every meal at view restaurants pushes past 1,000,000 VND. Carry small notes: market stalls rarely have change for 200,000 VND bills.
Activities: the Fansipan decision
Fansipan is the one big ticket. The full town-to-summit journey (Muong Hoa funicular, cable car, summit train) costs 1,370,000 VND per adult at 2026 Sun World prices, so 2,740,000 VND for two; our easy Fansipan plan shows how to pace it. Everything else is cheap: Cat Cat village 150,000 VND, Ham Rong mountain 70,000 VND, Silver Waterfall 20,000 VND, and the Muong Hoa valley viewpoints are free. A realistic activities budget for two is 3 to 3.5 million VND with Fansipan, or under 500,000 VND without it.
Local transport and extras
Sapa town is walkable. Taxis and short rides for a valley morning run 100,000 to 300,000 VND; a half-day car into the Muong Hoa valley is 600,000 to 900,000 VND. Add a foot massage (about 150,000 to 250,000 VND) and market shopping, and 500,000 to 1,000,000 VND covers the odds and ends for two.
What this looks like in practice
A comfortable 3-day Sapa trip for an Indian couple in 2026: 1.8 million VND for limousine vans, 2 million for two nights mid-range (booked on weekdays), 1.5 million for food, 3 million for Fansipan and small sights, and 700,000 for local transport and extras. Call it 9 million VND, or about Rs 30,000, before flights. Trim the van to a sleeper bus, skip Fansipan and eat local, and the same trip drops under 5 million VND.
