How much should an Indian couple budget for Singapore? Hotels, transport and activities

A realistic Singapore budget for two, from a tight Rs 1 lakh trip to a comfortable Rs 2 lakh one: 2026 hotel, food, MRT and attraction prices, and where couples actually overspend.

Every Indian couple planning Singapore asks the same question first: kitna lagega? The honest 2026 answer for a 5-day, 4-night trip for two, flights included: about Rs 1 lakh to 1.3 lakh total on a tight budget, Rs 1.7 lakh to 2.2 lakh for a comfortable mid-range trip, and Rs 3 lakh and up for luxury. This guide breaks those numbers down line by line, in rupees and Singapore dollars (at roughly Rs 65 to S$1), so you can build the version that fits you.

The three budgets at a glance

For five days and four nights for a couple, return economy flights from India included:

  • Budget: Rs 1,00,000 to 1,30,000 for two. Budget hotels or capsule stays in Little India or Lavender, hawker food for most meals, free and cheap sights.
  • Mid-range: Rs 1,70,000 to 2,20,000 for two. A 3 or 4-star hotel in Bugis or Clarke Quay, hawker lunches plus restaurant dinners, three or four paid attractions.
  • Comfort: Rs 3,00,000 and up for two. A 4 or 5-star hotel at Marina Bay or Orchard, restaurants daily, Universal Studios and the works.

Flights: the biggest single cost

Booked six to eight weeks ahead outside peak season, return fares from Delhi, Mumbai or Chennai run about Rs 18,000 to 28,000 per person. Around Diwali, Christmas and the May-June school holidays, expect Rs 30,000 to 45,000 or more, and last-minute fares climb further. Budget carriers quote low base fares and add checked bags and meals separately, so compare total prices. Flights are the one line item where dates change everything: shifting a trip by two weeks can save a couple Rs 15,000 or more.

Visa and arrival formalities

Indian passport holders need a Singapore visa, applied through an authorised agent; the all-in cost is usually Rs 2,500 to 3,500 per person and takes a few working days. The SG Arrival Card you fill before landing is free on the official ICA site or MyICA app; any website charging to "process" it is a middleman. Budget Rs 6,000 to 7,000 for two.

Hotels: where you sleep sets the bill

Per night for a double room in 2026:

  • Budget (Little India, Lavender, Geylang edge): S$100 to 160. Compact rooms, unbeatable food streets and MRT access.
  • Mid-range 3-4 star (Bugis, Clarke Quay, Chinatown, Orchard edge): S$180 to 300. Bugis is the value sweet spot, sitting on two MRT lines.
  • Luxury (Marina Bay, Orchard): S$450 and up, doubling during event weeks like the Grand Prix.

Four nights for two therefore runs from about Rs 26,000 (budget) to Rs 52,000 to 78,000 (mid-range) and Rs 1,17,000-plus at the bay. One warning: Singapore hotel and restaurant prices carry 9 per cent GST plus a 10 per cent service charge where applicable, and that "++" adds roughly a fifth to headline rates, so compare final totals, not listed rates.

Food: the good news

Singapore's food maths is wonderfully upside down: the cheapest food is often the best. A hawker centre plate of chicken rice, laksa or char kway teow costs S$5 to 8. Food courts in malls run S$7 to 12. A casual restaurant main is S$20 to 35 before the "++". For a couple, two hawker meals a day plus breakfast keeps food near S$50 to 60 daily (Rs 3,250 to 3,900); mixing in restaurants takes it to S$100 to 140 (Rs 6,500 to 9,100). Vegetarians do brilliantly around Little India and at chain hawker stalls. Five days of food: about Rs 16,000 to 20,000 for two on hawker-heavy eating, Rs 32,000 to 45,000 mixed.

Transport: cheap if you ride the MRT

Most MRT and bus rides cost S$1 to 2.50, tapped on a contactless Visa or Mastercard (check your card's foreign transaction fee) or a tourist pass. The airport-to-city MRT ride is about S$2.50 and 45 minutes. Plan S$10 to 15 a day for two on the MRT. Grab and ComfortDelGro taxis start around S$8 to 15 for short hops and add up quickly; use them for tired evenings, not as the default. Five days: about Rs 4,000 to 6,000 for two on the MRT with the odd Grab.

Attractions: pick your splurges

Current 2026 prices for two adults:

  • Gardens by the Bay (Flower Dome + Cloud Forest): S$46 per adult, so S$92 for two. The Supertree Grove and evening Garden Rhapsody light show are free.
  • Universal Studios Singapore: from S$76 per adult on non-peak dates (S$83 to 89 on peak and super-peak days), so S$152 to 178 for two.
  • Night Safari: S$58 per adult for non-residents, S$116 for two.
  • Free wins: the Botanic Gardens, Merlion Park, Marina Bay waterfront, Sentosa's beaches and the light shows cost nothing.

A couple doing Universal Studios, the conservatories and the Night Safari spends about S$360 (Rs 23,500) on tickets; swapping in free sights can halve that.

The full picture: a mid-range 5-day budget for two

  • Return flights, booked ahead: Rs 50,000
  • Visas for two: Rs 6,500
  • Hotel, 4 nights at S$220: Rs 57,200
  • Food, mixed hawker and restaurants: Rs 32,500
  • MRT plus some Grab rides: Rs 9,500
  • Attractions (USS, Gardens domes, Night Safari): Rs 23,500
  • SIM/eSIM, shopping and buffer: Rs 16,000
  • Total: about Rs 1,95,000 for two

The same trip on a strict budget trims to Rs 1 to 1.3 lakh; the comfort version clears Rs 3 lakh without trying.

Where couples overspend (and how not to)

  • Peak-week flights and hotels: moving dates out of Diwali or the school holidays is the single biggest saving available.
  • Daily taxis: the MRT is faster for most central trips and a fifth of the price.
  • Restaurant lunches: eat big at hawker centres at lunch when stalls are fresh, and save the sit-down dinner for when you will enjoy it.
  • The "++" surprise: compare prices with GST and service charge included, especially at hotel restaurants.
  • Third-party arrival card sites: the SG Arrival Card is free; only the visa costs money.

Bottom line

For an Indian couple, a comfortable 5-day Singapore trip lands near Rs 2 lakh for two, and a smart-budget version near Rs 1.1 lakh, flights and all. Fix flights and the hotel first since they swing the most, eat like a local at hawker centres, ride the MRT, and put the savings toward the one or two attractions you actually care about.
