Before choosing "connect through Mumbai" or "start from a nearby airport", separate three proposals: a departure from Pune, a flight connection after leaving Pune, and a road journey to a different departure airport. They have different costs, handling and recovery risks. Compare the complete journey from home, not only the international fare.

Check the Pune option before assuming a connection
IndiGo's 29 October 2024 announcement introduced Pune-Dubai nonstop service in November 2024. Its narrative and flight table give different first dates for the outbound and return directions, so this guide uses only the dated route-launch context, not those timings as a current schedule. The announcement is a reason to check a Pune departure for your dates, not proof that a particular flight or fare is available today.
This review has not established current nonstop inventory, frequency, price or a specific connection. Ask for actual date-specific flight results and the final ticket conditions before deciding. An airline route-marketing page alone does not tell you which sectors or stops the proposed fare contains.
Compare three complete journeys
- Pune departure: price the flight actually offered, baggage, seats if needed, the local airport journey and arrival at the Dubai hotel.
- A flight connection: show every sector, airport code, ticket relationship, baggage handling and onward deadlines. Do not assume that the word "Mumbai" identifies the full transfer.
- Road to a different departure airport: include transport, luggage space, tolls or parking if applicable, meals, any overnight stay and the return journey home. Verify the exact airport and terminal before arranging the vehicle.
No option is automatically the cheapest or gentlest. Ask the parents about night travel, waiting, stairs and the amount of bag handling they are comfortable with. A road departure can remove a flight connection while adding a long journey before check-in.
The airport name belongs in the quote
A city label is not enough for a driver or a connection plan. Get the actual departure airport code, terminal and reporting instructions from the issued itinerary and current official flight information. If a proposal uses a different Mumbai-area airport from the one expected, price that actual road journey. Do not reuse another airport's travel time or pickup instructions.

Turn the saving into a family total
Compare quotes for the same travellers, dates, baggage needs and change conditions. Add the entire ground cost to the alternative-airport fare before calling it cheaper. If a night near the airport is needed, obtain a real room quote and cancellation conditions. Do not apply an invented rupee threshold or a fixed road time to every family.
For the return, ask when the aircraft lands, whether the family wants to continue by road immediately, who drives and what happens after a delay. A plan that looks easy on the outward journey can leave the family with an uncomfortable arrival night.
Road travel is not an airline-protected connection
Do not assume an airline will protect a flight because a separately arranged car is late. Ask the issuer about the actual ticket's missed-flight and change terms, and ask the transport provider about delay and cancellation arrangements. If two flights are involved, confirm the ticket relationship separately. The separate-ticket worksheet helps expose deadlines; it does not supply a universal safe gap.
