You do not get to pick your Japan visa centre by convenience - India is divided into fixed consular jurisdictions, and your application goes to the one that covers where you live. The map, as the embassy and VFS publish it: the Consulate-General in Mumbai covers Maharashtra, Goa, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Daman and Diu, and Dadra and Nagar Haveli. Kolkata covers West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand and Odisha. Chennai covers Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Kerala and Puducherry. Bengaluru covers Karnataka alone. Everything else - including Delhi, Jaipur and all of Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana and the northeast - falls to the Embassy of Japan in New Delhi. So the four cities in the title sort themselves: Jaipur and Delhi file under the Delhi embassy, Mumbai under its own consulate, Bengaluru under the Karnataka consulate. In practice you submit at a VFS centre, not the consulate itself - VFS runs application centres across these cities, no prior appointment needed - but the file is examined under that jurisdiction, which is why the document checklists differ slightly by region (Mumbai's list asks for three months of bank statements; Delhi's accepts six months when there is no ITR). The mistake to avoid: travelling to a friendlier-looking centre in another jurisdiction, only to be turned back at the counter. Check the current VFS Japan page for your state before you plan the trip to the centre, because centre lists and checklists do get updated. When travellers plan a Japan trip with us, matching them to the right jurisdiction is one of the first things our team sorts out - before the itinerary, the hotels or the insurance.
