Indians apply for an Australian Visitor visa (subclass 600) online through an ImmiAccount, with documents showing funds, ties to India and a plan to return. The length of stay is set in your grant, which you can check on VEVO. Fees and processing times change, so read them on the official Home Affairs pages when you apply.
Rules in detail
The visa for tourism and family visits
Indians travelling to Australia for a holiday or to visit family apply for the Visitor visa (subclass 600). Applications are made online through an ImmiAccount on the Department of Home Affairs website.
What to prepare
The department's "check twice, submit once" guidance asks for the following.
- All names you have been known by, with proof of any name change.
- Proof you intend to return home, such as work, family or study ties.
- Proof of enough money for the stay, for example recent bank statements.
- Every document the department requests, even if you held an Australian visitor visa before.
- English translations of documents in other languages. A translator outside Australia must give their details.
- Agreement to receive communication electronically through ImmiAccount, which the department says helps get a faster decision.
If a person under 18 is travelling and will stay with someone other than a relative or legal guardian, that host completes Form 1257 and the parents or guardians must have nominated them.
Fees, stay length and timing
The fee, the length of stay and the processing time depend on your application and change over time. Read the current numbers on the official pages linked below. After a grant, you can check your visa conditions on VEVO (Visa Entitlement Verification Online).
