the short answer

Indian ordinary passport holders can visit Thailand visa-free for tourism for up to 30 days under the scheme effective 15 September 2026. Entry remains subject to immigration checks.

Rules in detail

Who can use the 30-day tourist exemption?

Indian ordinary passport holders are eligible for visa-exempt tourism visits of up to 30 days under the scheme effective 15 September 2026. This is visa exemption, not a paid visa on arrival. The permitted stay recorded by immigration is what matters for your own trip.

Documents to have ready

  • A passport valid for at least six months from arrival.
  • Return or onward travel details and your accommodation address or booking.
  • Adequate funds: the Royal Thai Embassy lists 20,000 Thai baht per person or 40,000 baht per family, or equivalent.
  • Your completed Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC).

Visa exemption is not a guarantee of entry. Officers may check the purpose of your visit and supporting documents. Do not use tourist entry to take employment.

Complete the free TDAC before travel

Submit at the official Immigration Bureau website within three days before arrival, including arrival day. TDAC is free and is not a visa. It applies to non-Thai travellers entering by air, land or sea, including children and infants. Airside transit without passing immigration does not require it.

Have passport information, travel details, a Thailand accommodation address, an email address and health declaration information ready. Download the confirmation or keep the email accessible offline. A new TDAC is needed for each entry.

Stays longer than 30 days or a different purpose

Do not assume that a tourist exemption covers a longer stay, employment, study or another purpose. Check the appropriate category with the Royal Thai Embassy before booking. Its visa page lists a separate single-entry tourist visa with a 60-day stay and an INR 3,000 fee. That is a different route from the free 30-day exemption.

Extensions of an existing permitted stay are at immigration's discretion. Apply before the current stay expires; do not plan around an extension being guaranteed.

Repeated entries and land or sea crossings

The Royal Thai Embassy's exemption conditions limit Indian visa-exempt entries through land or sea border checkpoints to twice per calendar year. Do not assume an unlimited series of border runs is allowed. Check your own itinerary with the embassy if you are making repeated visits.

Before you leave India

Recheck these official sources close to departure, match names and passport details across all bookings, and check the airline's document requirements. This page covers ordinary Indian passport holders travelling as tourists. Different documents, purposes or immigration circumstances can need different advice.

For senior travellers

Help each parent complete their TDAC, checking passport spelling, dates and hotel address. Keep the confirmation available offline and carry a printed backup with passport, return flight and hotel details. Children also need a TDAC. A family member may use the group submission option, but each traveller's information must be correct. Arrange airline wheelchair assistance separately if needed; TDAC is not an assistance booking.

What changed

DateChange

Is the TDAC a visa, and is it free?

TDAC is a digital arrival card, not a visa. Submit it free at tdac.immigration.go.th within three days before arrival, including arrival day. Children and infants also need a card.

The Royal Thai Embassy lists adequate funds of 20,000 Thai baht per person or 40,000 baht per family, or equivalent, for tourist visa exemption.
