Getting from Jeju airport to Jeju City: taxis, costs and what to check before landing

Jeju's airport sits practically inside Jeju City, so the answer for most travellers is a metered taxi from the Gate 3 rank: 15-20 minutes, roughly 5,000-8,000 won. Here are the bus, Kakao T and late-night options too.

Jeju City is the easy arrival in Korea. The airport sits practically inside the city, so for most travellers the answer is a metered taxi from the rank outside Gate 3 of the arrivals hall: 15 to 20 minutes to most Jeju City hotels, roughly 5,000 to 8,000 won according to jeju-escape's 2026 airport transfer guide. Fare estimator taxi.jnkt.kr independently pegs a central drop at about 7,700 won in daytime (9,240 won from 10-11 pm and 10,780 won from 11 pm-4 am with the night surcharge), which sits comfortably inside the same range. The bus network matters more if your hotel is on the south side of the island, and we cover that below too.

If you have not booked the flight leg yet, our Seoul to Jeju flights guide covers the Gimpo shuttle that most travellers arrive on.

The short version

Staying in Jeju City with normal luggage: take a taxi or Kakao T. Staying in Jungmun or Seogwipo and travelling light: the limousine bus 600 is the value pick. Landing after 10:20 pm: taxi, Kakao T, or a pre-booked private transfer, because the buses have stopped. Renting a car for the trip: skip all of this and go straight to the rental counter.

Taxi: the default for a Jeju City stay

The taxi stand is directly outside Gate 3 on the arrivals level (1st floor), clearly marked, with separate queues for regular and jumbo taxis (Visit Jeju's airport page). Fares are metered rather than negotiated, which removes the usual first-day haggling anxiety. Expect roughly 5,000-8,000 won to Jeju City center for the 15-20 minute ride (jeju-escape), with taxi.jnkt.kr's 7,700 won daytime estimate for a central drop landing in the middle of that range. To Seogwipo on the far side of the island, budget 35,000-45,000 won and 60-70 minutes.

Two honest notes. First, English proficiency among Jeju taxi drivers varies a lot; showing the hotel name and address in Korean on your phone screen works reliably. Screenshot it before you fly. Second, tipping is not expected in Korean taxis at all - the meter fare is the full payment.

Kakao T: the app that replaces Uber

Uber does not operate meaningfully on Jeju. The local equivalent is Kakao T, Korea's dominant ride-hailing app: full English interface, upfront fare estimate, driver details, and cashless in-app payment. It works directly from the airport and is a good way to skip the taxi queue during busy arrival banks. One piece of prep that genuinely matters: Kakao T requires phone number verification, so install and verify it from home before your trip rather than standing in the arrivals hall on slow airport WiFi.

Limousine bus 600 and the city buses

The 600 is the airport's express bus, built for the resort areas on the south side rather than for Jeju City itself. Routes 600 (to Seogwipo) and 601 (Jungmun only) alternate, leaving roughly every 25 minutes from about 6:00 am to 10:20 pm. Fares are 4,500 won to Jungmun and 5,500 won to Seogwipo, payable by contactless card or T-money at boarding, with luggage racks on board. Journey time runs about 1 hour to Jungmun and 1 hour 40 minutes to Seogwipo with all stops.

For Jeju City itself, the regular #100-500 series city buses cost just 1,150 won with a transit card (1,200 won cash), but they stop constantly and have little luggage space. With suitcases, the few thousand won saved is rarely worth it on such a short taxi hop.

Landing late at night or very early

The limousine bus stops at 10:20 pm and resumes around 6:00 am. Outside those hours your realistic options are the taxi rank (which stays staffed for late arrival banks), Kakao T (slightly longer waits overnight), or a private transfer booked in advance. If you know you are landing late, a pre-booked transfer with a driver holding your name sign is the one option with zero uncertainty, and split across a family the per-person cost approaches a taxi's.

What to check before you land

Five small things that smooth out the first hour: a Korean-language screenshot of your hotel name and address; Kakao T installed and phone-verified; a contactless Visa or Mastercard (accepted on buses and in taxis, so you do not need won in hand immediately); a quick check whether your Jungmun or Seogwipo resort runs its own airport shuttle, which some larger properties do on a fixed schedule; and, if you are picking up a rental car, Naver Map or Kakao Map downloaded, because Google Maps offers very limited turn-by-turn driving directions in South Korea.

If you are still choosing between islands and cities

Jeju's arrival experience is simpler than Busan's in one way (everything is close) and harder in another (no rail at all - the bus is how the island moves). Our Busan or Jeju comparison weighs the two holidays properly, and if your trip routes through Busan, the Gimhae airport to Haeundae guide covers that arrival the same way.

Questions on this article

asked by readers, answered by us

How much is a taxi from Jeju airport to Jeju City?

Metered taxis run roughly 5,000-8,000 won for the 15-20 minute ride to Jeju City center (jeju-escape's 2026 transfer guide), and fare estimator taxi.jnkt.kr independently pegs a central daytime drop at about 7,700 won - 9,240 won from 10-11 pm and 10,780 won from 11 pm-4 am with the night surcharge. The metered stand is outside Gate 3 of arrivals, so there is no negotiating, and tipping is not expected.

Does Uber work on Jeju?

Not meaningfully. The local equivalent is Kakao T, Korea's dominant ride-hailing app: full English interface, upfront fare estimates, driver details and cashless in-app payment, and it works directly from the airport. One preparation that matters: Kakao T requires phone number verification, so install and verify it from home before your trip rather than on arrival WiFi.

Our flight lands after 10 pm. What are our options?

The last limousine bus 600 leaves at 10:20 pm and service resumes around 6:00 am, so after that your options are the taxi rank (staffed for late arrival banks), Kakao T, or a private transfer booked in advance. For a family landing late, a fixed-price pre-booked transfer with a driver waiting at arrivals is the zero-uncertainty option, and split across three or four people its per-person cost approaches a taxi's.
